  1. most everyone seems satisfied with the make-believe ending. However, the real story is extremely chilling, I don't believe any amount of fictionalization can make me believe otherwise. I read the account in Time magazine after it happened, all of Hollywood was in genuine panic mode, and the 1976 tv movie Helter Skelter gave me nightmares as a teenager. I still cannot google the gruesome crime scene photos. This is one blot on history that will sadly never go away.
