  1. Kyle is 100% right, you can only be absolved of student loan debt if you can prove financial impoverishment to the Dept. of Education. Good luck doing that with a greedy billionaire Amway saleslady in charge.

I own a financial services firm and a few of my clients have 20% of the SS checks garnished by the DOE to repay delinquent loans. Only way out is a temporary waiver or a permanent forgiveness after proof of indigence for 3 years, both from the DOE.

Global Warming Skeptic the way the law works is if you are in default on a GSL or NDSL loan, the DOE will run your SS number and if it comes back a hit they will notify the SSA to withhold up to 20% of your SS benefit check. This is automatic and cannot be reversed unless you contact the DOE and request a temporary waiver (I don't remember how long) or permanent release of the debt after 3 years of monitoring your income status. You are dead wrong and should contact the DOE at 888-303-7818 or www.disabilitydischarge.com. Hope this helps people who aren't as dense as you.

  5. ***** the SSA number is 800-772-1213. Call them and the DOE number I posted on Tuesday and they will confirm what I have said. You are in error and are misleading other people who think they have nothing to worry about. I call that irresponsible.
