@jwgreek8606 my mother grew up in poverty in a family of 11 in rural Jim Crow Virginia and my father, though he was the son of a well-off Harlem landlord and his homemaker wife - both immigrants from Barbados - faced brutal harassment from mostly white cops, along with his 11 other siblings. They both rose to become prosperous and highly respected suburban homeowners on Long Island, helping their relatives to succeed. My mother in particular was a local civil rights and neighborhood activist. They gave me and my 3 siblings a very secure upbringing in the turbulent 1960s and changing 1970s and taught me the true Christian faith, morality, ethics, generosity, tolerance, forgiveness and love for all humanity as well as inner strength and the will to succeed the honest way in life. Although I am to date the only college graduate and teacher in the family and have a highly useful and productive life today, I view my greatest accomplishment as having been born to two of the greatest people who ever lived.
