I've met exactly one Trump voter in my life so far and he fit the stereotypical description: white, male, non-ethnic, no education beyond high school, probably Catholic, early 60s, retired union worker, remembers the "traditional" 1950s male-female social construct, extremely ill-informed and close-minded, loves Fox News, hates all other news, the exception surprisingly is that he was married to a foreigner outside his race. He also had kidney failure, which meant his health insurance either would have quadrupled or been canceled had Trump got his way and eliminated Obamacare last year.

Goughs Bastard that's true of union members above-55 worldwide especially in the blue-collar trades. They largely agree with Republicans on social issues, they just want the union benefits and pensions and government bennies when they retire. I guess they do not see the irony of their support.

Goughs Bastard don't buy into the propaganda, the left has never forgotten the underclass. In fact, if it wasn't for the programs created by the left since the 1930s, America (and the world) would be a hellish Dickensian/Darwinian landscape far more than it is now in some areas. What you see is neglect by the political establishment: selfish Republicans who care only of their own greed and seem to take sadistic pleasure in the suffering of others, and Democrats who have turned cynical and inward due to the lack of progress in their fight. It's easy to become discouraged and give up, that's what the right is counting on. Don't give in to it.

Goughs Bastard the left should concentrate on economic empowerment of the lower class, working class, and middle class and hope the average Joe will gradually catch up with them on social justice if they are to gain and retain power for a long time.

Goughs Bastard the inequity in the US is profound, and it is the result of a two-tier society in racism, education, job opportunity and culture. It is papered over because even the underclass gets to enjoy decent things from Best Buy or Walmart. The real breakdown will come in the next recession or depression when the poor and middle class lose what little they have, especially when the Republicans, if they are still in power, are poised to make them chattel, or worse. Voters had better wake up and put the Democrats in charge beginning this year, especially the progressive ones.
