  2.  @Lleanlleawrg  you should learn history. The GOP used to be an honorable party, though often wrong, for its first 120 years or so. Hard to believe now but most blacks voted Republican until about 1960.

  3.  @MrYago-xd7um  I remember the 2016 debates quite well. Ted Cruz correctly called Trump a pathological liar and Marco Rubio aptly described him as a smarmy con man. Months later Cruz was making telemarketing calls for Trump. That's when I knew what cynical phonies Republicans were.

  8.  @One.DeSanctis.  the modern GOP began in 1964 when Goldwater's nomination split the party in two, moderate-liberals and far-right conservatives. Nixon (and his campaign media manager Roger Ailes, future creator of Fox News) was the first to use the southern strategy to win in 1968 and employed the Silent Majority to win in a landslide in 1972. Ford, a moderate, was an accident, and the party quickly went right, but not batshit right, in 1980 with Reagan. Lee Atwater's racist Willie Horton ads for Bush 41 in 1988 and New Gingrich's 1994 GOP takeover of Congress were the first to introduce character assassination in politics, and it intensified with the election of a black President in 2008. Trump took it to a whole other level.

  15.  @Stand_By_For_Mind_Control  McCain's biggest mistake was Sarah Palin, apparently he was talked into choosing her by his staff. And I remember the day CNBC reporter Rick Santelli launched the tea party movement with his rant on the NYSE floor in early 2009, which has led directly to the political nightmare we are living today.

  26.  @Abrin32  untrue. I'm not going to give you a history lesson here, I'll just say that the entire character of the GOP began to change with Newt Gingrich's rise in the 1980's and 1990's. Moderate-liberals faded and the far right took over the party by the time Obama was elected in 2008. His re-election in 2012 shook them up so bad that they were willing to try anything in 2016. Donald Trump seemed just what the doctor ordered, only they had no idea they were dealing with pure evil until it was too late.

There were many others, all honorable men, even though they made mistakes. Even Bush Sr. helped create the Fair Housing Act and the ADA. You need to dig deeper, 32.
