  1. sadly, my beloved dad, who was otherwise brilliant, believed this till the day he died 10 years ago. He grew up in a church where women were not even allowed to speak. From that standpoint, him dying was the best thing that happened to my mother.

  2. it wasn't that bad, they both loved each other and stayed married for 60 years. However, that was the lot of all women from the 1950s to the mid-1970s. It is still largely a man's world, like it or not.
