no money for public schools, no student loans or grants, no overtime, a government hiring freeze, a 20% tax increase for the bottom third, no health care for pre-existing conditions, cutbacks on SS and Medicare/Medicaid if they exist at all, no steel mill, factory or coal jobs, no minimum wage increase, probably no unemployment insurance in the next recession, continued outsourcing, and no safeguards from predatory bankers, plus everyone records every racist rant you make and it goes viral on YouTube. But hey, Trumpers, you won!

it sure looks like Ms. Lindsey committed a Georgia state crime:
2016 Georgia Code

§ 21-2-604. Criminal solicitation to commit election fraud; penalties

(2) A person commits the offense of criminal solicitation to commit election fraud in the second degree when, with intent that another person engage in conduct constituting a misdemeanor under this article, he or she solicits, requests, commands, importunes, or otherwise attempts to cause the other person to engage in such conduct.

PLUS: he crossed state lines, which also makes it a Federal crime.

I've met exactly one Trump voter in my life so far and he fit the stereotypical description: white, male, non-ethnic, no education beyond high school, probably Catholic, early 60s, retired union worker, remembers the "traditional" 1950s male-female social construct, extremely ill-informed and close-minded, loves Fox News, hates all other news, the exception surprisingly is that he was married to a foreigner outside his race. He also had kidney failure, which meant his health insurance either would have quadrupled or been canceled had Trump got his way and eliminated Obamacare last year.

the 2 highest bonds in U.S. history:
$1 Billion Dollar Bail – Kim Freeman
Kim Freeman was charged in an Ohio court with operating a brothel in 2010. Freeman has no prior criminal record, but she did have heavy ties to Asia, making her a flight risk. The district attorney argued that she would feel at the first chance, and the judge agreed. The judge set bail at $1,000,000,000.
Bail Bond Cost: $100,000,000
$3 Billion Dollar Bail – Robert Durst
Real estate heir Robert Durst received the highest bail ever in the United States at $3,000,000,000. In 2003 he was charged with the murder of his wife and given a $1 billion dollar bail, which he posted. Durst skipped on his bail and was then rearrested and given new criminal charges of tampering with evidence. As a result, the judge set bail at $3 Billion.
Bail Bond Cost: $300,000,000

let's see, we'd lose 2 Republican senators, including Ted Cruz, Greg Abbott, a dying oil industry, racists, sexists, and xenophobes, we'd restore abortion rights and we don't have to defend the Rio Grande anymore. We'd have Democratic government and progressive legislation forever, it would be a new golden age. In return, Texas can set up their own little Gilead - until Mexico reclaims their land after losing it in the Mexican War 175 years ago. Brilliant plan, thanks!

let's see, in 4 weeks Trump has insulted China, Iran, Australia, Canada, Mexico, the NATO allies, and now Sweden. That's what, 180 or so countries to go, so by Thanksgiving (and I'm being generous) we should either be in multiple wars or without a friend in the world or both. Well done, asshole.

I live in North Jersey, in one of its two most populous and bluest counties, Hudson County (the other one is Essex County). Wildwood is in the southern most part of the state, in what we call South Jersey. There is a reason Trump held his rally here; it is by far the reddest part of the state, Rep. Jeff Van Drew, a conservative Democrat-turned-Republican, is entrenched here. Wildwood is a popular summer vacation spot for rich Wall Streeters. Trump will win fairly easily here. However, Central and especially North Jersey rule the state, where the cities despise him. Even if Trump has a surge here (highly unlikely), he will get no closer than 3% to winning the state, which is what the GOP candidate for governor, Jack Ciattarelli, a Trump supporter, got against Gov. Murphy in the midst of the pandemic in 2021.

Chelsey M a fair question. My nephew and his wife have given conflicting opinions on Trump, unfavorable when speaking to me but I am told favorable to others. I do not know if they voted for Trump and I did not ask them. I had to ask myself a question: where do you stand on intolerance, on bigotry, misogyny, racism, a fascist state and other ills that I thought were in America's rear view window or would never be allowed here. Now that it is here, and threatens to destroy civilization, I felt it is time for me to take a stand against evil, and I have made it. Will I excommunicate my nephew and his wife if I find out they voted for Trump? No, they are family, and you make exceptions for family. Will I let them know my feelings on the matter and that they should re-examine themselves? Absolutely, without question. Never be afraid to do the right thing.

Flint Dinkersnatch are you freaking kidding me?? Social Security, WPA, desegregating the military, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Medicare, Medicaid, Title IX, minimum wage, SEC, FDIC, Fair Housing Act of 1968, the ADA, ACA, etc. etc. There literally wouldn't be a middle class without the Democratic Party.

of all the many thousands of people who have appeared on Time's cover since 1923, this one is the most disturbing, even beyond Hitler. There is something uniquely evil about this man. Satan takes human form.
An addition: I noticed some people in the comments are apparently unaware of Time's impact on American and world events over the past century+. The magazine was founded by Briton Hadden and Henry Luce in 1923 as the first newsmagazine, designed to report ALL the news of the week (now twice a month), good or bad, not just part of it. Time set the standard of modern journalism and its covers have launched and destroyed careers. After Hadden died, Luce took the magazine in many different and controversial directions, while making the magazine (and himself) into the most influential news source and cultural symbol on the planet at one time, along with its sister magazines Life, Fortune and Sports Illustrated and Time-Life Books. Luce himself wrote an editorial in Life magazine in 1941 titled The American Century that was adopted as US foreign policy right up till the Trump presidency. Over the decades Time has put sinners like Al Capone, Stalin, Mao, Joe McCarthy, Lee Harvey Oswald, Idi Amin, Ayatollah Khomeini, OJ Simpson and Osama bin Laden in addition to saints on its cover. Hitler was Time's 1938 Man of the Year, a far more controversial choice. Trump himself was Man of the Year in 2016. Time has shifted its editorial bias many times: pro-Marxist in the 1930s, anti-Communist from WW2 to the early 70s, pro-dictator on and off in every decade until the 1970s, pro-China until 1949, pro-Republican from Alf Landon in '36 to Nixon in '72 (and maybe Reagan in the 1980s), pro-Christian until its 1965 cover "Is God Dead?". After many years of blandness, I am personally glad that Time, under new ownership, has returned to form as the journalistic trendsetter it once was. The magazine business has been in serious decline since the Internet took off 25 years ago; I'm hoping this cover story will begin to revive interest in a media platform that I have enjoyed since childhood in the 1960s.

@gianthills these are the facts: 1) Democrats swept the top offices in nearly every swing state, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and increased their majorities in the legislature; without these swing states, Republicans will not win the presidency in 2024; 2) donors and many Trump voters are switching their allegiance to the new darling, Gov. Ron DeSantis of FL. 3) Trump is losing court case after court case, even his beloved Supreme Court released his taxes. 4) he cannot stop a state indictment for vote rigging in GA. 5) he cannot stop a $250 million lawsuit for fraud in NY. 6) he cannot stop Jack Smith, the Special Counsel. 7) his approval rating is in the mid-30s. On top of all these facts, you somehow believe that Donald Trump will prevail and be elected the 47th President of the United States? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL....

@ecoblitz3655 very good question. Let's see: obstruction of justice, campaign violations, violations of the emoluments clause, human rights violations, ignoring congressional subpoenas, giving aid and comfort to hostile governments and domestic groups who seek the overthrow of the U.S. government, tax fraud, money laundering, criminal profiteering from his office, illegal tariffs, perjury, violation of the 4th Amendment, refusal to perform his oath of office, deliberate failure to staff subcabinet and key positions in his administration, mismanagement of executive departments. That's about 15 Articles of Impeachment alone, off the top of my head. I'm sure there's some more that he'll be guilty of by year's end, if he lasts that long.

1. Thunderball, super-cool, best of the best
2. You Only Live Twice, extravagent '60s classic
3. Goldfinger, blueprint Bond, invented the modern action movie
4. From Russia With Love, great Cold War spy adventure
5. Dr. No, can't beat Connery's intro
6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service, last of the great '60s spy adventures
7. Diamonds Are Forever, good, not great
8. Octopussy, classy affair, Moore's best
9. For Your Eyes Only, another Moore class act, excellent mountain climbing scene
10. Licence To Kill, Dalton relentless, memorable villain, gripping action
11. The Spy Who Loved Me, above average Moore
12. The Man With The Golden Gun, brilliant opening, great concept, below average execution, would have been better with Connery
13. Live And Let Die, colorful but ultimately just too silly
14. A View To A Kill, derivative by the numbers action, nothing new
15. The Living Daylights, Dalton disappointing, plays Bond like a slouching jerk who'd rather be elsewhere, overall lightweight action
16. Goldeneye, Brosnan too lughtweight pretty boy to be Bond, adequate story
17. Tomorrow Never Dies, tries for '60s retro, mostly fails
18. The World Is Not Enough, overall is far from the classic '60s era
19. Die Another Day, Halle Berry as seductive assassin/master spy? I don't think so.
20. Casino Royale, Craig reminds me of Lee Harvey Oswald, not my idea of great entertainment
21. Quantum of Solace, only interesting scene is Mr. White's cameo
22. Skyfall, highly overrated self-important foolishness
23. Moonraker, despite the droll villain Drax, embarrassing, strictly for little kids
24. Never Say Never Again, good to see Connery again, otherwise pointless gimmicky remake of the classic Thunderball

@raymondtuckerjr1886 for better or worse, individuals with a unique charisma or a larger-than-life personality usually get to the Presidency: TR, Wilson, FDR, Ike, JFK, Reagan, Clinton, Obama, even (unfortunately) Trump. Seldom will a humble man like Jimmy Carter succeed. Harris is not a Presidential persona, it's one of those things that you either have or you don't. She is obviously a very smart woman and she can have a long and distinguished career in a future Senate majority, as AG or a Supreme Court justice.

even in the 70s I thought SWAT and Starsky & Hutch were outrageous parodies of the then-obsession with urban policing in the Patty Hearst era. Although occasionally witty, I thought Get Smart was for kids. I actually liked the Man From UNCLE, it's even somewhat more interesting than the tv series. Addams Family Values is that rare tv-to-movies artistic success. The Untouchables series was far superior to the movie, despite Connery's iconic performance, second only to Bond. As for M:I, the series is IMO the best ever made; the movie franchise are just action fests, they do not come close to the series' psychological mind games. And turn Jim Phelps, an American patriot, into a traitor and give him a dishonorable death? I'm still steamed about that nearly 30 years later. The Fugitive, tv series and movie, are equally as good, though for different reasons.

there are 210 million registered voters in the U.S. as of May 2024. Of these voters, 38.8 million, or 18.48%, are registered Republicans. Among registered Republicans, Farron claims that 60%, or 23.28 million Republicans, identify as MAGA. (The research I've done shows MAGA identification among the GOP as 50% tops, or 19.4 million, as of August 2023, but I'll use his percentage.) If Trump is convicted, he allegedly loses 4% of these people, or 931,000. That leaves 22.35 million MAGA Republicans, or 57.6% of the party, who in theory will vote for him. None of these figures, however, include likely voters. If 20% of the GOP (roughly the Nikki Haley vote) drifts away from Trump, his voter pool in the party is 31.04 million, an extra 8.69 million more than the MAGAs. Compare this to the 49 million voters who identify as Democrat (23.3%), that means 41.78% of registered voters identify as a member of the two major parties while apparently 58.22% do not. If you split the unaffiliated voters down the middle it leaves an edge of 10.2 million, or 4.9%, to the Dems. In 2020, Biden won the popular vote by 4.5%. These figures tell me that the only way Biden can lose in 2024 is through a narrow lose in the Electoral College or record low Democratic and unaffiliated turnout.

the only "accomplishment" Trump has ever done for NY is repairing Central Park's popular Wollman Rink in 1986. He claimed that he himself had fixed it (where have we heard that line before?) in only four months and under budget, whereas Mayor Koch couldn't after spending millions over 6 years. It was the beginning of the myth of Trump as master builder and he used the hype to his advantage for the next 30 years.
However, there are many catches to this story. Trump agreed to the project if he could manage the rink as a charity, promising that he would donate the profits to the homeless. Instead, he reaped millions for himself over the next 25 years, underreporting its income and shortchanging the city for a huge savings in annual taxes all the while, and never donated a penny to the homeless. Like most of his projects, Trump never actually "built" the rink, he farmed it out to HRH Construction at cost - which the city, not Trump, paid -promising that the resulting publicity would make them famous and in demand. But Trump hogged all the publicity for himself, never even mentioning HRH. It was a one-way sweetheart deal until 2021, when Mayor deBlasio cancelled Trump's contract to manage Wollman and other city parks and recreational attractions.

@dennisdoran3947 Jr. is not JFK or RFK, his ideas are kooky and he is a screw up in terms of running a government (which he has never done). MAGA Republicans like him b/c MAGA Republicans think he is in sync with their agenda, which definitely doesn't include young people like you. You are better off voting for Biden, who has produced more jobs than any president ever, lowered inflation to 3%, criticized corporations for being greedy, tried to eliminate student debt (the GOP blocked him; he still eliminated debt to 800,000 by executive order) which is the biggest hindrance to homeownership for the young, fought for wage increases for unions, sought gun restrictions, returned the chip industry to the US from Taiwan, and is fighting to prevent Putin from absorbing Ukraine, the first step in going after Poland and Finland, NATO members, and sparing WW3. There's much more, this is off the top of my head.

I was a registered Republican for most of my adult life; at first it was largely b/c on my native Long Island in the 1970s my mother, who had some connections with local GOP politicians, told me that was the best way to get a county job. It was a patronage system where all Nassau County workers paid an illegal 1% kickback to the party to get and keep their jobs. NYS Republicans were still largely moderate-to-liberal at the time, what with Nelson Rockefeller, whom increasingly conservative national Republicans hated, being the governor for 15 years.
In 1980 I voted for independent John Anderson, a liberal Republican congressman who was the Bernie Sanders of his day, in the first presidential election for which I was eligible b/c I disliked Reagan and bought the propaganda against President Carter (who should have gotten my vote). After I graduated college, I tried in vain to get a corporate job so I turned to teaching instead. Reagan was a very popular president and I was in a (stupidly) jingoistic period of my life so I went along with the crowd and voted for him in '84 (mistake #2, Mondale was the wiser choice). The Cold War with the Soviets and communist paranoia were hotter than ever and Reagan was very good at painting the Democrats as weak on defense.
At the time the Republican party was not yet extremist; they were the party for conformist business types who wanted low taxes, which sounded good to me (I still want tax cuts for the working and middle class but not the rich and I want to ban all billionaires), and I was also pro-life at the time, not understanding its full implications until much later. I even considered running for office but was talked out of it mainly by a letter from Tom Gulotta (I wrote to him for advice), the future GOP county executive who told me that he regretted going into politics and that it was too sleazy to get involved with. Despite my relative conservatism, I couldn't stomach the racist George Bush ads in 1988 so I voted for Mike Dukakis, who summoned the suppressed humanist in me.
Throughout the 1990s I was apathetic about politics in general, and I was pre-occupied with my business aspirations, so I skipped the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections, though I voted locally (mainly for Republicans until I moved to NJ in 1993). I don't regret this decision b/c my opinion of Bill Clinton and Bob Dole remain low, although Dole gets points for his WW2 service.
My evangelical Protestant upbringing re-surfaced long enough to vote for George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004 - by far my worst 2 votes ever - overlooking the smears against Al Gore and especially John Kerry. Despite the awful job Bush did as president my dwindling reasons to vote Republican lasted another two elections, when I chose John McCain, an honorable man and a war hero, over Barack Obama (who probably should have gotten my vote both times, though I am still not a fan) in 2008. I intended to vote for Mitt Romney in 2012 (but I was in the hospital on election day) as by far the sanest of the Republicans, who were already showing ominous signs of extremism. By early 2015 I had enough, and I turned my back on the Republican party forever, and not a moment too soon, as Donald Trump was just a few months away from announcing his fetid candidacy. Ever since, the U.S. has been in its gravest danger since the Civil War and the rise of Adolf Hitler.
The fundamental reason that led me to pull the trigger on the Republican party, however, was a life-altering personal crisis that began in 2011. I became critically ill from an undiagnosed disease that may or may not be related to diabetes (it's a long story) that nearly killed me and left me permanently disabled. The munificence of the government and the love and support of strangers as well as family made me do a 180 on my own selfishness and has turned me into a complete humanist who has renounced the acquisitive mindset. I now actively oppose all ignorance, bigotry and hate. Though I am no longer an evangelical, I feel closer to the Christ than ever before b/c I am truly following Jesus' teachings and not the world's vanity and confusion.
Although I now vote straight Democrat for civic reasons, I am beyond the pettiness of partisan politics of all kinds. Instead, I focus on finding the best path to a just and enlightening future for humanity.

@Aer_We_Breathe Jr. is the second choice of MAGAs because he harbors many of their reprehensible anti-vax and conspiracy theories and toxic masculinity nonsense, which is why Trump's campaign fears him. I don't think Democrats will fall for his BS once they find out his wacky views. Adding a wealthy tech sis to the ticket is already proving to be a huge turn-off for his campaign. Jr. is not a hero to anything his Dad and uncles stood for: true patriotism and sacrifice, real aid for the working class, the poor, the disadvantaged, immigrants, all Americans really. They opposed the greedy and cruel rich, they revered rather than reviled education, science and expertise, and they provided a soaring vision of the future where every American would be included in the American Dream. He is their exact opposite, a vain spoiler with an incoherent platform that favors the rich and privileged. Anyone who votes for this fraud and confused idiot is casting a vote for Trump - which may not be so bad if it splits his vote and aids a Biden victory.

the hostages are Hamas' only bargaining chip, so why would they release them? Using special forces is very dicey, a Rambo fantasy. The problem is how to conduct a war against Hamas when they are hiding behind 2 million innocent Gazans. Moving them all to another country is unlikely given that they are largely unwanted elsewhere. Also, why would Netanyahu, who wants to occupy Gaza for Israelis, allow them to return? Seems to me a ceasefire would be good for humanitarian reasons, but why should it only apply to Israel and not Hamas? Given that Hamas and the larger Arab world has been dedicated to Israel's destruction since 1948, and that Israel isn't going to give up their land no matter what, the only options left are perpetual war until one side or the other wins or neighboring Arabs decide to accept Israel as their neighbor. It doesn't help that under Netanyahu, Israel wants to take over both Gaza and the West Bank. If that happens, where do the Palestinians go?
Due to domestic political reasons (a powerful pro-Israel lobby in the US), President Biden has chosen to support Netanyahu for the moment, hoping that he will go easier on the Gazans, but that seems unlikely. At some point before the election, political pressure will force Biden to make a choice: continue supporting Bibi or cut him loose. My own opinion is that Bibi and other extremists have to be removed as a first step, but replaced with what? The situation is more perplexing than even Ethan Hunt, Jim Phelps or David Pakman can solve. There is hope, however; if Israel and Egypt can make a peace that has lasted for 45 years, these other questions might be soluble too, somehow.

@seanking1775 fairly typical Republicans don't separate children from their parents and make immigrants live like pigs, they don't cut off trade with the rest of the world and let the farmers lose their shirts, they don't back Russia over NATO , they don't insult our allies, they don't suck up to dictators in North Korea, Russia, the Phillippines, Hungary, etc., they don't call the press the enemy of the people, they don't inspire their voters to send pipe bombs to the opposition and shoot innocent people in churches, and they don't turn the Justice Department into Donald Trump's private law firm - until now of course. If you don't see what's happening to America before your eyes, then you are blind and part of the problem.
