@1bad99superduty The theory is, when you pre-fill you are putting the oil into the discharge side of the filter, so when the engine starts, that oil is going straight to the bearings and not through the filter first. I get the theory, and it is something to possibly be aware of, but would it stop me from pre-filling an oil filter, to get oil pressure in the minimum time? No. But to each their own

@1bad99superduty If it gets pumped to the filter, the filter catches it. If it's poured into the filter, it goes straight to the main oil gallery. That's the theory behind it. Could brand new oil out of a sealed container be contaminated? Possibly, maybe it has a lump of plastic in it from the container itself, but pretty unlikely imo

@july8xx Not an urban myth at all. Let's say, for example, during the manufacturing process, a small lump of plastic or a piece of swarf, makes its way into your new container of oil. If you pour it into the discharge side of the filter (The hole in the middle), there's nothing between it and the main oil gallery. Start the engine, and first stop = main bearings (Or possibly camshaft). If you pour it into the pan, it gets sucked up by the pump and pushed into the inlet side of the filter, where it remains.
