I have to side with the Americans here, it is named after the big cat, which is native to the Americas, so, the poms are probably wrong on this one ;)

I can pick a SA accent anywhere, Baink for bank, or stobie pole are 2 giveaways ;)

@karenvickery6070 The American way is wrong, they have butchered the English language, and even butchered the middle eastern language too lol

@keithparker2206 I guess it all comes down to who first named the big cat. If it was named by an American, then it is only correct that it is pronounced the way they pronounce it. I do agree with you in principle, I'm just cutting them some slack on this one particular word ;)

But we often mix THEN and THAN, which is something I think we inherited from Americans?

@naomipask1809 I see it all the time. In fact, if you read up this post you will find an example. Unfortunately we (not all of us) tend to copy American mistakes

Buoy is short for buoyant. It's not booi-ant. Nutella is made from nuts. Not noots. Actually, we pronounce most of our words the English way, and they invented the language, so......
