  1. Never been attacked by a magpie, but I have been swooped many times by plovers when I was a kid, the brown wing ones. They have a spur on their wings that can do you a bit of damage. I also live right near a beach that has a lot of sandstone caves in the dunes, I've actually been swooped by seagulls there nearly every spring, while walking my dog. My wife has a family of maggies at her work, they are super friendly and never swoop, they come down for food every day. There's a movie that came out last year called Penguin bloom, true story about a pet magpie, worth a look
