It's a terrible thing, but it seems, historically speaking, the only way to be able to be truly neutral in a war is to be physically far away from it (and sometimes, even that's not enough, esp for how global we are). Otherwise, you can only be seen as for or against, and if you're not for anyone, you'll be seen as against everyone.
