Why not? It is literally impossible to prove one self innocent of an alleged crime which happen between two people 5 years ago. All that is needed for a long jail time would be a judge just believing what a girl says above that which a guy says. much better tactic to accept a plea deal where you avoid the chance of american prison.

@Outdoors_Chesapeake Maybe what it is for. But not how it is used. Prosecutors know that if you convince an innocent man that it is a 10% chance of getting wrongly convicted and facing 20 years in american prison, then the rational thing to do is to take a plea deal.

@daedalron You have misunderstood something. taking a plea deal does in no way mean that one admit to any guilt whatsoever.

@daedalron I see how it is easy to misunderstand. But you basically said it best yourself "Though to be fair, some people will take a plea and admit to being guilty even though they're innocent, in order to make the whole thing stop." Except it is not "admitting" to be guilty, it is lying and claiming one self to be guilty.
