  1. Ah no. British railways were a complete mess prior to privatisation. Badly managed for decades, inefficient, underinvested. British rolling stock manufacturing was already close to dead prior to privatisation. And almost everything they made in their final 20 years was technologically backward. Which is why they exported almost no new rolling stock, with only the Australian state of NSW using the HST design. Passengers hated a lot of the rolling stock British works made, especially the pacer emu’s.
