@SailingSeignior I’m an atheist who’s studied theology, mostly Abrahamic religions, and while I agree that these religions promote hate, they also promote guidance and love. You’re certainly not reading these scriptures, when you can easily read them online for free, in chapters.
You sound like a typical atheist who tries to denounce and ironically, crucify people’s faiths because you deem them as “evil”, when you’re clearly being biased to form your own extreme agenda. Not cool.
If you’re a so-called atheist, you should probably reevaluate your opinions and start to study theology as a whole. If you want to be respected when it comes to these topics, you have to be prepared and don’t resort to predictable tactics of overly negative views, when there’s a huge spectrum you’re ignoring.

@SailingSeignior If you’re referencing Hinduism, the caste system you see today was emphasized and manipulated by the British.
If you’re referencing the Old Testament, New Testament, or the Quran, you have to do the research yourself to find out whatever truth you’re looking for. You could use dozens of verses to your benefit, as these scriptures, or bibles, were written by dozens of individuals, or so-called “prophets”. You could also take verses out of context, too, which is a common argument when discussing religion. I’ve seen it all.
Arguing about religion in a serious matter is complete nonsense, when there is just too much information, and many chapters could be filled with contradictions, since nothing is ever consistent when regarding ethics.

@SailingSeignior I like how your views always end up in extremism.
The people who use the most violence in religion are extremists, I'm glad we've already admitted that, lol, and I'm sure everyone agrees.
Although my argument, I hope you understand, was to persuade you that not all these sects are necessarily "extreme", according to their beliefs. Your argument is very one-sided and too critical, which isn't exactly healthy when talking about something as complex as religion.
Even though the caste system in Hinduism is logically bad, doesn't mean you should just focus on that one aspect of that religion. The lore of Hinduism, and its history of the Aryans, is something that isn't expressed much when talking about history. Let's also admire and appreciate how Buddhism and Jainism came from Hinduism; similarly to how Sikhism came out of Islam.
The spirituality side of religion is something that is used in secular societies, which again, doesn't mean you take it seriously. We can agree that a form of daily ritual, based on a zen mindset, is actually more beneficial than harmful, right?
As you continuously bring up extremism as your main argument, it sort of warps the narrative of how atheists think of religion, no? You now have become an extremist yourself, with rather conservative views, not talking into consideration that there are many great human beings who practice their particular faith.
Anyway, as an atheist myself, you also have criticize how ignorant other atheists are. Why are you not bringing up pseudoscience in atheism? The arrogance and ignorance of atheists is very ironic, thus why I said you should study paganism as a whole, not skips huge parts of text and history.
Mythology is a huge part of religion, besides these outdated ethics, we have drugs and imagination that created these unique stories.
Although I fully understand your harsh opinions on religion, you should take a step back and do research on paganism, altogether.

@SailingSeignior I said no such thing that they were created by the British, except the Dalit (the “untouchables”) was created to emphasize Indian society. I’m not suggesting nothing? Your “extremist” arguments doesn't phase me, lol. I never said I supported religion, nor did I say I hated it.
I know what you’re referencing, and I said to study the religion as a whole to understand its values. It’s all based on interpretation. I think Jesus is God, that’s my interpretation of his stories and image of Catholicism.
Religion is absolutely subjective, and at the same time, manipulative.
You talk about “research” like you’ve done it yourself, that’s a pathetic argument within itself. I could immediately tell you haven’t read anything, lol, because you’d know there are dozens of sects that use specific verses to form their own principles. It could be ethically wrong, or morally just, it all depends.
I never defended the sacrifice of an innocent person, so why are you using it? Sacrifice has been in paganism since the beginning of human civilization, doesn’t mean I support it.
Lol, you’re telling me that without even studying and researching theology yourself, you sound very insecure and hostile, when you should be educating yourself to be a better person. I respect certain aspects to these religions, yes, because again, not everyone who studies these religions are horrible, evil human beings, as your toxic perspective describes them to be.

Matt Collins You're thinking of a "utopia".
Not everyone who practices their faith is an extremist, nor are they bad human beings. If you ever travel the world, you have to learn to adapt and respect others, including their faith.
I live next door to a Buddhist. My community involves many religions, including Orthodox Jews, muslims, Coptic Christians, and many other Christian denominations. Similar to dealing with festivals, customs and traditions, you deal with it, even if you don't want to associate yourself with many of them.
Religion will never go away, it only evolves. And btw, atheism has been around since the beginning of paganism, but either or still won't change the outcome of "logic and reasoning".

@MinaMina-gs5wc Yet Marx’s communism has killed the equivalent, if not more humans than modern paganism.
There is good in religion, although I do think there are more negatives than positives. I do consider myself a historian, and if you want, I’d be glad to spread awareness and enlightenment to you, or anyone else who might come across this thread. I can easily give you references and clear up the many inaccuracies about religion, or the timeline concerning major wars and events.
Death is not a “facade”, it’s a real thing that humans have to deal with. There is absolutely no reason why people can’t believe in an afterlife, even though these “paradises” are fictional, no one will ever know what will happen after you pass. Most people are afraid of the unknown, and you’re going to have accept that it’s a human trait, and everything else in life we do is to fill the inevitable.

@ananastea Thank you for reading my comments, I appreciate it.
As you probably know from reading my comments, I am fully against forcing an agenda on people, because it creates propaganda, which leads to brainwashing. As a philosopher, I look at everything from each perspective, even the extremes of history, as to why certain individuals do what they do (because mostly everything in life has a pro and con, or reasoning). Many religious people tried to convert me, including a Christian pastor and some Mormons. When a situation like that happens, I only listen, and I don’t try to forcefully convert them with my views, even if they do it me. In most cases, you can never force someone to change their whole mindset when it comes to their philosophy on life, they can only change themselves.
Overall, most journalism has failed because they rarely, fully understand both sides, meaning, they always have an agenda. Whether it’s favoritism or bias, it’s apparent. I however, try to be less bias about many things in life, it gives me the opportunity to understand why the world functions the way it does.
Anyway, I just wanted to give you insight on how my thought process works. Even more so since you’re also open-minded to other opinions :)

@Account-ql3mc This is where you’re lacking education in this specific topic.
Look up these examples: Islamic Golden Age, Timurid Renaissance, European Renaissance.
Even the Mughal Empire has periods of greatness.
All these religions pushed scientific innovations by art, instruments, and architecture.
Although back then, the bubonic plague wasn’t solved by scientific measures, it was handled by different actions as a way to stop the spread. Meaning, they tried doing something other than praying.
What does Christianity being “more open” mean?
They’re indeed responsible for the majority of people’s prejudice and ignorance, and let’s make it clear that it happens in rural areas, like the countryside and villages, where education isn’t common, and fundamentalism prevails.

@muscle2500 To give context in your argument:
Homophobia was looked down upon because of past paganism rituals and ideals. It was basically a "libertine" era of sexual freedom.
Modern paganism got rid of those sexual desires and unified everyone according to what they believed, was "moral". So, deities and gods had to go, as you already know. There's also contradictions when it comes to that, as an author says, "don't judge onto others, as you judge onto yourself". So, there's really no definite answer to anything.
Also, the concept of "hell" isn't in the bible. It was glorified and emphasized by 2 individuals, outside the bible: Augustine of Hippo and Dante Alighieri (Inferno poem).
However, there are mentions of a “hell", but it's subtle and called "Hadēs" in the New Testament.

@VictoriousSage I never learned anything in school and college, lol, I know everything because I was passionate about self-educating myself. You aren’t going to find the “truth” without doing hours of reading from many different professional sources, and documentaries also help.
There’s not just one sect of “satanism”, there’s dozens. Anton LaVey started the interest, curiosity and trend.
No, I understand your viewpoints, and I already know of those extremes in these cults/occults. Yes, I do agree that secret societies do have many abuses dealing with hazing rituals, such as Freemasonry and Skull and Bones. I’m just saying have an open mind towards paganism, I mean, check out Wicca, I think it’s pretty interesting.

@VictoriousSage Nah, the schooling curriculum ain’t gonna go that deep into the many truths out there, they’re very linear in their methods. When it comes to anything related to history, the school system in general is going to force their agenda on you.
You’re right, I’m just saying I didn’t see anything particular on Anton LaVay.
I see! That’s very interesting.
I’ll take your word on their testimonies, I’m sure they were abused in their previous cult. However, I don’t associate myself with any organization, especially religious, when it comes to getting the truth, lol, that’s why you have to be cynical of what they’re really promoting.
