@BothHands1 Wow, that seems highly illegal and toxic...I would've definitely quit if I were you XD I hope you're doing better now and don't have to deal with someone who doesn't care about your wellbeing. I always hear bad stories about Florida, lol, so this honestly doesn't sound surprising.

@BothHands1 You need to educate yourself about Japanese society. For some reason, there's a huge majority of foreigners who think too highly of Japan without looking at many of its flaws. It's just ignorance and favoritism, which is something I don't support. Racism is still a huge issue in Japan, and there's still many conservative parties that support racism and are anti-foreigners. The social aspects of Japan is also very toxic: sex is not something that is openly expressed, and the workplace is often dysfunctional. Sexism is a huge issue, along with how employees are forced to go to events without having an opinion on the matter. I'm just saying that even though the US is corrupt, Japan also isn't the best place for foreigners who are living there.

Danielle Spargo No, I didn’t mean physical sex XD I meant the topic of sex is “taboo”. But I’m glad you had a great sex life, lol. Yep, I know all about the safety and security of Japanese society, and you don’t have to worry about your items being stolen or whatnot. I’m glad your overall experience was good, but I’ve heard many stories of foreigners who live there that deal with racist gestures, especially when they’re on the train and Japanese people move their seats when they sit next to them. There’s also the molestation incidents when the trains are overcrowded in the mornings. I have heard that Microsoft in Japan tested a 4-day workweek which is good. I believe if you actually worked there, it would be a different story, lol, but I respect your thoughts :)

Danielle Spargo If we’re taking about Seinen, Goodnight Punpun has a lot of competition with other great works. And again, I think Asano has a lot of underappreciated works that are not talked about because of Punpun taking all the credit. As I said before, I think City of Light is better. There’s also Solanin that’s pretty good. I have watched Haibane Renmei many years ago...it’s a very calming show :) I have not read Onii-same e because I’m not a fan of Shojo, although I know it’s history. I might check it out regardless. I have read Flowers of Evil. I didn’t like it that much, but it was an interesting read, when I did read it many years ago. Thank you for taking the time to check them out, as I said, I’ll do the same with that Shojo pick :p

Danielle Spargo Yes, the younger generation is more progressive, but it still has its dysfunctional traits. The same with the boundaries with male adults and girl bands, along with the issue of male adults paying for company with female students, for instance. I agree with the city being my least favorite thing! I love nature and the countryside more. I have seen too many videos with Japan and it’s beautiful landscapes, lol. He drugged you? Can you explain? Well, I’m sure Florida isn’t the best place to go for work XD I hate everything about Florida, lol. Yea, it all depends where you work, and what field you’re in, I would assume.

@BothHands1 I think you're exaggerating Goodnight Punpun. It's obviously overrated because people don't read Inio Asano's other work and don't criticize Punpum for having some weak points in its writing. It's a decent read, for sure, but it's definitely not a "masterpiece" , or "hauntingly accurate"...whatever that means. The most unique aspect is, of course the birds, which puts a spin on the dysfunctional family situation. I think you should definitely read and expand your horizon with Seinen, as someone who's a historian with manga, there's been a surge of many new Seinen that have really impressed me on how it's evolved in storytelling. If you're looking for better stories/writing, imo, than Punpun, I'd say check out Himizu and We Did It.
