Here we go, dividing everything to make more cliques and drama, furthering stereotypes and typecasting.

That's total bs! RZA appreciates and respects Hong Kong action movies, he literally grow up with them, and would watch the same films on repeat.

Bruce Lee never broke out in Hollywood, as he did in Hong Kong, because most of his movie were made there. Jackie tried to showcase his talents in the 80s, but it never worked out either...until the 90s with Rush Hour. But there aren't many Asian American directors. Even though there are a lot of amazing ones, most of them are independent.

@paulocuento9949 Hollywood was very racist and biased back then. Really, nothing much has changed, lol, it's still mostly the same.

I don't think that's true at all. What movies are you talking about?

@Kioki1-x8p What about Wayne Wang and Justin Lin? I don't think that at all. Nobody is referencing those movies and using them as a weapon. Today's discrimination has to do with the propaganda from COVID.

@AlMondO93 I mean, he's Asian, and that plays a huge part of people being unfamiliar with Chinese culture. Although I strongly believe most of his best work is in Hong Kong in the 80s with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao.

@Sean-tn5nv Well, I'm a cinephile, lol. Hong Kong and Taiwan don't really go into Western culture too much. Hong Hong has depicted the British as enemies, using the priests as allies. But it's nothing bad. Other than that, Hong Kong mostly makes movies about the Japanese during WW2, detailing their atrocities.

@Sean-tn5nv I think in general, if the actor is good, race/ethnicity shouldn’t matter, and that’s what Hollywood still doesn’t understand. This lady is saying we need more Asian representation that doesn’t include stereotypes, but I mean, that could be said for Native, Hispanic, or African American movies as well. And it’s biased to ignore all the Asian American movies that are more realistic in terms of the Asian culture in the US, specifically independent movies.

@RyanMan767 I already said I’m a cinephile, lol, so I know all the “trends”. I’m just saying we saying we need to do a better job of representing both sides of the spectrum, talking more of independent films by Asian Americans. The “drama” is that none of the “political” side matters, when diverse actors should be playing in a fictional movie, if it’s not based in a historical context.
