I wouldn't call the interrogator a genius. He is not good at building rapport at all. He comes off too strong and military like from the get go. Where as the accused is much more soft spoken. Or at least acts that way. And Michael is certainly no genius. His act is so bad, childish and goofy. It just screams guilty knowledge. What the interrogator is good at though is letting Michael fry in his own fat and dig a bigger and bigger hole for himself.

@ananolastname1605 Yea, they have to but most detectives don't stop the conversation straight away. They often try to keep the talk going hoping to convince the accused to keep talking to them anyway.

@jenkem4464 When you know or have a strong suspicion that someone is guilty of murder their rights are not that important.

@jenkem4464 We are talking about cases where the evidence is mounting to more than just cheap suspicion. I'm sure the detectives feel the same. Who cares if a person looses 4 hours of their life if this time is spent on catching a killer. Usually the detectives got a solid case when they treat a suspect this way. We are not talking about "fishing trips" where they hope to get lucky with random people they take of the street. If you are a killer you have forfeited your rights!

@jenkem4464 Yes i understand the process and i fully agree. But what most often happens is that the accused will start talking with the interrogators anyway because they think it will make them appear guilty if they don't. Even after they have called for a lawyer, they don't shut up. And of course the detectives will use/abuse this as much as possible. That's just how it is. Very rarely do you see an accused who knows how to fully shut up and stop the process right there. Even police criminals can't shut up. What i'm saying is i don't blame the detectives for keep trying. You can call it manipulation or what ever. Its just the human condition. The detectives will stall it as long as they legally can. And again, i see nothing wrong with it when the crime is murder.

@jenkem4464 "There are also plenty of cases where cops used leading dialogue and abused instance of foggy memory, bad recollection, etc, to basically pin cases on people because of "gut feelings". Yes i know of such cases. People are stupid. Sometimes stupid criminals, some times stupid cops. Happens in all countries. But most of the times this has happened because the accused kept talking to them. They simply can't shut the fuck up!

@jenkem4464 Also the jury will see the interrogations tapes. And if the accused keeps acting shifty, dishonest, keeps contradicting himself, then it is taken into consideration in the final verdict.
