  1. Hexadecimal is used for convenience as it consists of 4 bits, or half a byte. I was brought up on octal back in the 1970s and can still convert ASCII in my head! Regarding bilingualism - if you're a native English speaker the choice of a second language is problematic since it will restrict you in who will understand you, whereas a non-English native speaker can choose a single language (English!) that will open up many countries.
