  4. You must’ve lived a very privileged life. Must be a Boomer. You clearly have no idea the psychological toll this kind of precarity takes on a human being. Not knowing if you’ll be evicted in a month, or deported in a year… not having agency in your own life. Doing everything right and still getting fucked. Here’s what you don’t get. This country isn’t worth the fight. The American dream is leaving America. Canada will give you permanent residency status in as little as 15 months as a skilled worker. It’s a fair, objective, points-based system. You do what they expect of you, learn their languages, get the degrees they want, turn in your assault rifles, and you’re welcomed as a full citizen with equal rights. Why in god’s name would you stay in this shithole country as a second class citizen, where a ride in an ambulance can bankrupt you? I hate it here so much.

  5. Dust bowl had similar drought, but not quite as severe. Climate change is making this worse. But I’d argue this is more of an infrastructure problem. How have we not dammed the Mississippi up north to guarantee flow during drought and provide flood control? Insanity. We are such a lazy country.
