  2. The idea Mexico is the “next China” is absurd on face value. Mexico has an order of magnitude fewer people. But Mexico can eat (and has eaten) some of China’s lunch. It’s a multipolar world now, full of overlapping interests and alliances. There won’t be any more singularly dominant world powers in this new world order.

  5. There’s way too many variables to handle in a proper research paper. How much of this is just a result of colonialism? Theres a fundamental selection bias, where almost nobody lives in the coldest places unless there’s an oil rush. Look how sparsely populated and poor Canada’s northern territories are, or Siberia. So it’s not cold vs hot, it’s temperate vs tropical/desert. The increased difficulty of survival, having to cooperate further north, it’s a thing, but how do you remove that from the economic impact of centuries of slavery in the tropics? Slavery inherently cripples economic growth. It’s why the former confederate states in the U.S. will never catch up economically. Once you have a head start, it’s very difficult to ever catch up.
