  1. The whole Everest thing certainly needs to be reformed, and these sherpas certainly deserve better compensation. Of course it is dangerous. Of course many of their clients are the scum of the earth. But this is an incredibly cynical perspective of their predicament. In 10 years, I bet the gentleman in his mid-40s will be retired from this extremely demanding job, but that there will be more Sherpa mountain guides, not less. The greater economic opportunities will only drive wages up. Any man will hear the call of the mountain. Men from halfway across the world hear it. How could you not hear it, living your whole life under its shadow?
