No, i'm saying in some countries where it is cloudy and rainy... problems with photo-chemical smog and particulates from Diesel engines are not a problem due to the lack of atmospheric conditions that cause these problems. The new generation of modern GDI gasoline cars also have the exact same NOx and particulate problems, because the use very similar Stratified Charge Mode Combustion.
2
And its also slang to call it a "rotor"... the correct engineering term is Orbiting Piston.
2
Mazda lost the 1991 WSC championship to Jaguar with this engine.
2
It simply proved the fact that Diesel engines are actually better for racing than Wankel engines... which is just sad.
2
they think you can replace internal combustion engines... those people are very ignorant.
2
NEWS FLASH: THE ROTARY ENGINE SUCKS! https://jalopnik.com/the-rotary-engine-sucks-1773174001
2
Wankel engines are exactly like old analog, CRT television sets, they are obsolete because they are outdated and offer inferior performance.
1
The Wankel engine was fatally flawed... Mazda dropped it like a bad habit in 2012.
1
Never going to happen... Wankel engines are obsolete technology.
1
WHERE IS IT???? Just more false rumors that never come true Hahaha!!! INSERT JACKASS TROLL REMARK BELOW
1
The word piston is right in the name given by its inventor.... you probably don't understand the difference between a ROTOR and a PISTON... but you are probably not an engineer either.
1
"Diesel engines are not more efficient than gas engines" REALLY???? Then why are the world's most fuel efficient engines DIESEL ENGINES???
1
Actually Per Liter Diesel Fuel #2 and gasoline have almost the exact same Energy Density (about 35 Megajoules per/liter). Diesel engines offer significantly higher Carnot Cycle Thermal-Fuel efficiency than Otto Cycle engines... which is exactly why Diesel engines are more fuel efficient.
1
If you really think that batteries can replace internal combustion engines??? Well, then you haven't done your homework... Because when you compare the Specific Energy density of liquid fuels to rechargeable batteries you quickly see the huge, very obvious problem with your theory...
1
Today marks the 6th anniversary of the end of RX production, on Thursday June 21, 2012 at 4:30pm the final RX-8 car ever to be produced rolled off the assembly line, the last RX model to ever be produced by Mazda.
1
No. they self-destruct their engine housings... these are disposable engines.
1
Engines that are not viable production units don't suffer apex seal failures because they never see real world use....
1
The United States military solved its problems with apex seal failures... they no longer use Wankel engines.
1
Its already supercharged
1
The Wankel engine is dead, Mazda ceased development of production Wankel engines back in May 2009.
1
+Owen racing Mazda only sells reciprocating engines since 2012... the Wankel engine was permanently discontinued because new car buyers refused to buy the anymore.
1
Wankel engines are completely obsolete in the automobile and engine manufacturing industries... you would have to be very gullible and naive to believe these inferior engines will ever come back... this is simply never going to happen for obvious reasons.
1
Mazda CEO said NO, they have absolutely no plans to bring back the Wankel engine and there is zero evidence to suggest this policy has changed apart from fake rumors started by amateur bloggers as "clickbait" headlines.
1
Without cars that actually sell... you have no car company, Mazda has already been bankrupt 3 times... they may just get swallowed up by Toyota or Honda next time and cease to exist.
1
Mazda only sells cars with reciprocating engines... they ceased all development of production Wankel engines in May 2009.
1
Nothing but wishful thinking and false hope... although laser ignition has been tested in laboratories, a practical system still does not yet exist.... and if it did? It would be equally beneficial to both orbiting reciprocating designs completely negating any net gain in efficiency over reciprocating engines.... so dream on.
1
They are so unreliable they are not used in aircraft. and automotive manufacturers abandoned them years ago.
1
The Eccentric-crankshaft works no differently than any of type of crankshaft... it just has a shorter stroke and is more rigid to deal with the massive stress cause by the lack of internal balance in the Wankel engine.
1
Not really, it uses the exact same types of bearings that other crankshafts use, not different at all in that respect... Connects to the PISTON specifically... the term "rotor" is a slang, an incorrect translation or proprietary term applicable only to certain defunct brands of Wankel engines.
1
Unfortunately it is a deeply flawed design and its flaws are inherent to the very basic fundamental geometry that allows it to work in the first place.. paint your self into a corner? its gonna be messy.
1
Mazda's Skyactiv-X is a reciprocating 4-cylinder!!! https://www2.mazda.com/en/next-generation/technology/
1
Why?
1
You don't actually know anything about engineering at all do you?
1
Wankel engines are no longer manufactured in series mass production anywhere in the world today... this obsolete design is no longer used in any production applications... it is now the sole domain of crackpots and con-men.
1
They have to submit there EPA test results for the car as it will be delivered to customers in the US before they can make any mileage claims.
1
Mazda just announced The 2.0 liter Skyactiv-X Mazda3 delivers 43.6 mpg on the new European WLTP drive cycle test. No EPA ratings yet but they could be near the 50 MPG mark.
1
How would you get the compression and power strokes to work???
1
Mazda now taking orders for the new Skyaciv-X 2.0 liter 4-cylinder equipped Mazda3 models with delivery for September 2019. https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/mazda-opens-orders-mazda3-fuel-saving-skyactiv-x-tech
1
The Wankel is sort of a joke.... it was a colossal failure.
1
Mazda discontinued the RX-7... 17 years ago and the entire RX brand including all Wankel engine production in June 2012.
1
That is a very naive statement... EVs have been around for over 130 years and have never been threat to Internal Combustion vehicles... and they still are not a threat even today.
1
Electric cars have been around for over 130 years... and they are still no threat to internal combustion cars... BEVs represent less than 1% of the total global fleet and market share remains stagnant...
1
R.I.P. Wankel engine 1964 - 2012

https://jalopnik.com/the-rotary-engine-sucks-1773174001 Jalopnik Says Rotary Engine Sucks!!!
1
Mazda's Skyactiv-X is a reciprocating 4-cylinder!!! https://www2.mazda.com/en/next-generation/technology/
1
Mazda really is an under-performing company, they seem to always invest large sums of cash into engine technologies that end up failing to catch on.
1
+Kaan Wayne But the RX-Vision was a non-functional, full-size model made out of styrofoam and clay??? It didn't have an engine or even have steerable front wheels.
1
Yes, the sports car market has shifted to the high-end segment... a place where Japanese automakers don't do well....
1
But other Japanese sports cars didn't do as badly as the RX-8 which suffered from having the worst fuel economy in its class, a bad reputation for reliability, poor resale value and utterly tragic styling.
1
Mazda is well known in Japan as the worst managed Japanese auto maker... with a long history of bankruptcies and models and entire brands that were huge embarrassing flops... anyone remember Amati? Eunos? or ɛ̃fini What about the Miller Cycle engine? that was another big flop that lost money.. they lost $3 billion on RX-8 too!
