+silver fox Next you will attempt to deny that the Me-109 was not the most successful fighter aircraft design in history...
1
+silver fox Higher manifold pressures and poor mixture control is what caused the detonation problem during WEP.. The German GDI system reduces the need for high octane by reducing detonation... it also increases power output over carbs
1
+silver fox Then why was Rolls-Royce still using gravity float valve carbs???? American manufactures and many other countries had already abandoned them in favor of pressurized fuel deliver???? The reasons for this seem very obvious both then as it is now... its surprising how you can refuse to acknowledge this glaringly obvious fact.
1
The American Stromberg-Bendix PD Carb... was not fuel injection, but it did away with the outdated and troublesome float valve found in the SU carb used by Rolls-Royce
1
American Bendix Carb off the Packard Merlin solved the problem.. the Germans used GDI.. never had these problems
1
But the German planes didn't stall like the brits... that was the whole point
1
+101jir Well, you would be very confused and misinformed then.. the Daimler-Benz DB-601/605 and Jumo-210 engines all used GDI. Yes, it was.. at the introduction of the air war the brits were still using outdated float valve carburetors. There should be no confusion between an engine stall and aerodynamic stall (flow separation of a lift generating device).. and you left out "compressor stall".. another aeronautical disambiguation of the term "stall".
1
+101jir Were you watching a different video? Because this one was not about "'aerodynamic stall" or "compressor stall" I'm pretty sure the Merlin was not a jet engine... Lol.
1
+101jir After reading your previous comments , the potential for you to be confused certainly is significant.
1
+101jir Maybe you should actually watch the video before commenting? and spend more time reading a book or attending aeronautics school too?
1
+101jir Because reciprocating engines do not experience "compressor stall" that is a type of stall reserved for jet engines.
1
+101jir That's exactly why I corrected your numerous errors.. there is no need for you to go around confusing people with your misinformation.
1
+101jir True, you seem to know very little on this topic and have provided nothing relevant worth continuing.
1
The Merlin was not equipped with fuel injection during the war.. The only modification that solved Both the Merlin's fatal fuel system flaws was the installation of the American designed Bendix-Stromberg PD-18 pressure feed, float-less CARBURETOR
1
+Moggy1000 The P-51 also used the Merlin engine.. and it had a superior carburetor than the spit
1
lifeof Brian All having the same fatally flawed SU carbs?
1
***** Thanks to the technically superior Bendix pressure feed carburetor Packard Merlins did not suffer from any of the flaws of the Rolls-Royce version..

+Bruce Bartup I don't believe anyone here is espousing the tenants of fascism or fascist regimes... whether it be the british royal family or German national socialism. The Tizard Mission's initial attempt to SELL british technology in order to save the country which was at the time losing the war and weeks away from financial insolvency.. failed to receive any offers, the second Tizard mission offered the technology in exchange as security on the massive multi-billion dollar Anglo-American Loan program. The R-R Merlin was not a part of this bail-out loan. Actually by the year 2000, but the brit government defaulted on the loans 6 times.. ""There's a heap of this Nazi re-appreciation around right now"" Perhaps because of the lack of appreciation for American and Canadian assistance in preserving what is left of what many feel is an ungrateful british "empire" Bobs your uncle..Cheers mate!
1
The royal family certainly did not attain it position through democratic elections.. The brit have always been known for a great sense of history... until it comes to the facts regarding the Tizard Missions and the Anglo-American loan, on this topic their collective memories begins to be considerably more fuzzy..Lol I suggest you try "deferring" you automobile or mortgage payment.. and see what happens! No, I was referring to WW1 and WW2.. but you could also include the considerable investment America made in maintaining stability in Europe during the Cold War while the british empire continued to slowly implode during the post war period. The previous comments are irrelevant regarding Rolls-Royce's flawed Merlin engine.. Packard did indeed improve the design by discarding the obsolete SU carb and replacing it with the American Bendix-Stromberg PD-18... after that, the flooding AND the fuel starvation flaws were both solved. Cheers mate!
1
+Bruce Bartup It appears your knowledge of aircraft fuel delivery systems is not as extensive as you believed.. even with the help of the internet.. cheers!
1
+Bruce Bartup said, quote; "The introduction of turbochargers shortly thereafter on Spitty mk IX" The Spitfire IX was never turbocharged.. it used the Merlin 61/63 engine.. the first to use the stronger Packard 2-piece engine block design and the 2 stage, 2 speed supercharger
1
Please learn that they used the same engines and carbs...
