Step #1 in an active shooter encounter is always to take cover quickly because copper jacketed lead is going to be flying. Step #2 is then draw your own firearm & flip the safety off. Step #3 is then locate the direction where the bullets are coming from. Note that sound echoes & is deceptive. Step #4 is watch in all directions & don't break cover. Step #5 is look for the nearest quickest exit. Step #6 is sprint to that exit & get out of there. Once outside take cover again, put the safety back on, & put away your firearm. Step #7 is leave the area staying under cover. Ideally get back in your car & drive away. Note: don't waste time calling 911. Somebody else will. Note also: don't risk going after the shooter. That's not your job unless you are paid law enforcement. Don't become a dead hero.

There is supposed to be an armed guard in every school. So the best thing for teachers is barricade the door then everybody gets down.

@MrLsocool fed bldgs normally have armed guards so that's their job.

@theboy9049 Wells Fargo Bank doesn't mind. For the USPO & SSA, I disarm yes. When I go to the doctor I disarm too. I have a metal gun box chained inside my SUV where I keep my pistol & mags when I must disarm.
