There is no ban on REM but price went up 300%

The last REM mine in US went out of business 4 years ago. China banned REM to Japam 20years ago, Japan was forced to apologize. After that they tried to make their REM. They still have to buy from China. Yes you can rare earth anywhere but what is the concentartion and how do you process it? Most important for the west, what is the ROI.

@nobodynoone2500 Gallium is 50ppm of Bauxite. To replace China you need to process 20M tons Bauxite. How do you do it in the shortbterm. Where are you going to get 20 millions ton of Bauxite?
2
Well if chip making machines are national security then chip makinging material is too, Gallium has great heat resistance so it used in missile and F35 (heat is one of its problem, radar, night vision google.

@TL-fe9si Wheat are from Russia

@nobodynoone2500 People don't understand the world is integrated now, we depends on each other. China does not have everything, they also relied on other countries like Indonesia for Nickel and Cobalt. . Looking at G7 vs BRICS, G7 is a bunch of former colonial power exploiting other countries and BRICS are mineral rich countries. It seems to me WW3 will be about mineral resources.

Except for aviation and missle, they need Gallium to deter heat during flight. You are right tho, we don't F35 or Patriot missle

China thinks things and they will act when they are ready. When their memory factories are up and running, they banned Micron. When Netherland and Japan banned lithography machine and they are not getting the chips, then they don't need to ship Ga any more. Controlling REM is much more powerful, but that will affect their own economy. Further more, China also has a growing LED industry, this will kill the Dutch and the Japanese LED business. In contrast, Dutch ban will cost ASML $18B in revenue.

@bernadmanny Who is building refining plant , where? The lastREM minhe in US went bankrupt 4 uears ago and Australia is shipping their REM to China for processing. AFAIK, there is only one other plant outside China in UK, he is learning the process from the Chinese and use Chinese equipment.
1
@atmel9077 Except you can influence company to build it for you. ASML is investing 10 billion euro in China. I wonder what for.
1
Or let them produce the BR100 which is 3X faster than A100
1
To be fair they are not crying but Japan and Netherland are.

You are quite right in your assessment. I just want toadd I think China is only 70% share of silicon. The next two are Russia and Brazil. BRICS vs G7?
1
When France and Japan are using yuan to buy oil , you know the game is over.
1
@Gameboygenius That's too wimpy, drink it straight up with a slice of lemon.
1
What is your source? According to US Geoscience China is the world's largestr silicon producer, and then Russia and Brazil and US is not even in the top 10. US is the largest silica sand producer but they are not the same.
