J was just in Hong Kong. Majority of the people do not agree with the violence and they are afraid of the rioters. Every taxi driver I talked to predicted this will happen and wishing it would happen. Beating up people that does not agree with you is not democracy or human right. So what are they fighting for? What are the freedom they are fighting for? The five demands; two of them are request for no accountability for themselves. That's not democracy.
9
More like cowards of our time. You don't Martin Luther King or Nelson Mandela escaping because of jail time.
6
The church is well known. They sheltered the first batch of protesters. They all returned to HK tho after they ran out of money.
5
What UN principle is NYT talking about? The only paper I found is a commentary which in the small print said it is only the opinion of the author. Please enlighten me, what principle are we talking about. As far as I know UN has no law enforcing unit, so what is that law?
4
When did NYT becomes propaganda arm for the localist.? Why didn't NYT report weapons and explosive seized by the HK police from the peaceful rioters. What about telling the truth about the extradition bill. The major reason China is up set about Western press is because they distort the truth. When rioters are beating up people at the departure, NYT is showing peaceful protesters at the arrival gate. You cannot claim to be neutral when you only show one side of the story.
4
They don't have the visa.
3
Nobody else will take them. Even Taiwan is not taking them. They only have 6 months under the current visa. The Taiwan congress already shut down asylum request from the first batch of escapees. Basically they think they are cowards for wearing mask.
3
These kids are mentally disturbed. They are living in fantasy world not reality. Perhaps they think they lived in a video game. There has been ZERO death in 4 months. If you escalate the violence the police of course will respond. This not a peaceful protest, it is a riot bordering on terrorism. So you can drop one of your 5 demands. You insisted on rule of law, so drop the other one. So now what are you fighting for? Nothing.
3
You are talking about normal people. These are spoiled brats. Can't even clean up after themselves.
2
Because they supported that. They still called them protesters for a reason. One reporter called petro; bomb a norm in one of the video.
2
@DorianLS The US law stipulated Asylum seekers need to seek asylum in the first country they visited. This so Honduran can't apply asylum in US and have to stay in Mexico. These people will NOT be able to seek asylun in US.
2
J K There are still a lot of law on the book banning Chinese owning property. The one in San Jose was only repealed 10 years ago.
2
It appears that they are rioting not demonstrating
2
@杨健 Interesting. Gotta think about that one. There might be some truth to it for China. There is also a correlation between GDP/capita vs freedom. higher the personal income, higher the freedom. China is a lot more open now than it was 30 years ago. I am quite optimistic about Chinese people and China's future.
2
@tonybernoulli7859 Bin Laden was originally supported by the US. His family was evacuated during 9/11 with help from US.
2
IMO, the most important issue is what the extradition bill really is. No western press bothered to read or covered it. The funny thing is there's a debate at FCC Foreign Correspondent Club that showed this pro-riot guy lying and nobody reported it. Here's the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GXJVjC2M-8 This is the biggest con job. NYT is part of the con.

Gen Info IDK. There are a lot of circumstantial evidence NED is funding the riot. But I am not sure who's funding them. But if they are out of HK, there is no reason for NED to fund them.
1
Unfortunately they will after they ran out of money. No job, no money no Mommy, no place to stay . They'll come home. The first batch already returned.
1
Not as democratic as you. They fined a TV station for interviewing an anti-DPP voter.
1
They are already using them. Cops were burnt. They also used ball bearing, bow and arrow, catapult with brick, smoke bomb and draino/acid. Antifa and proud boys don't stand a chance against them.
1
NYT needs to make money. It took them a long time to cultivate this relationship. Look at the past video, NYT is like a propaganda arm for them. Also notice it also said the dispatch. I think they are free lancer . They also did work for WSJ. I couldn't dig up anything on them . Maybe somebody can.

@katechen8957 Open your eyes. Look at the trade war, China has been very pragmatic. They could have banned all the US service businesses or add tariff (service revenue were not counted in the trade balance) or stop selling REM to US. They didn't because that will hurt the people. In the mean time, the US tariff has caused the largest nail factory in US to shut down, more farm bankruptcy in Iowa than 2008. Because Trump really don't mind hurting his own people.
1
@harryjiadong Not true. You will need a visa for US and UK. BNO holders do not need a visa to go to UK.
1
@DamonAiden The reason people bring up US is because of waving of the American flag and US's Hong Kong bill. US cannot claim to be the moral authority,so why do they act like one.
1
It is called spoiled brat. Mommy didn't teach him right.
1
@discursion Are you still talking about HK? HK has no censorship.
1
@jarenagra2804 Tienanmen Square was a long time ago. If you want to do history, let's discuss the Chinese Exclusion Act. Or more recent, Davidians in Waco.
1
@jarenagra2804 Ask @discussion. He did not seem to know HK has no censorship.
1
@LizardKing360 You know how to use google. Just fact check and tell me which part is wrong. Don't let your hatred for China blind you. Facts are facts.
1
@LizardKing360 If you can read, here's report from the Guardian. I don't think they are Chinese or pro-China. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jul/20/hong-kong-police-find-explosives-on-eve-of-latest-protests

He's dead. What does he have to do with this?
1
@mindinjar2819 I usually don't criticize other people's English. But I have trouble understanding what you are saying. Try to write a sentence at a time and read it and see if it makes sense. This is positive feed back not a negative critism
1
@discursion No, US passed a bill that disallow asylum application from a third country. For example, Honduran can't apply for asylum FROM Mexico, they have to apply for asylum IN Mexico. So in this case they will have to stay in Taiwan. The first batch arriving in Taiwan 3 months ago have already been turned down by US and returned to HK.

She was arrested twice. The first protester that was sentenced got 100 hours of community service. The Judge said he admitted guilt and showed remorse. After arrested twice meaning she also violated her bail provision. The 2014 rioter was sentenced to 46 months, So she likely will get at 3 years (my guess)if she did not threw any Molotov cocktail. Last arsonist was sentenced to 6 years.
1
@ottliteottlite9103 Third strike will be tough. But the problem is she is not remorseful. The people that get suspended or community services all pleaded guilty and express remorse. She is now in danger of jumping bail.
1
@ottliteottlite9103 I'm all for democracy and free speech. Violence I can't stand. To be honest, Antifa is not as violent as these folks. Even the neo Nazis are more peaceful. LOL
