  14.  @donderstorm1845  First off, I think it's fair to use the entire West v China as comparison cus of the difference in population and natural resources. China has always had an advantage in both. So let me just leave it at that. Now, China isn't the West's strategic rival because of innovation though. They are rivals for geographical reasons, one of the main being the huge disparity in population and resources between the two. China is and has been a cheaper market for production and a huge consumer base. They are economic competitors only. But they aren't competitors in the areas of science and technology so its not a surprise the Chinese have had to travel abroad to enhance these skills in these areas for decades. Of course this can all change no one is saying it can't or won't. Also what I said was China doesn't innovate on the global market. This isn't about me 'conveniently' deciding what innovation looks like. Historically, innovation has always has had applications in civilian sector and I'm sure China does this in its own domestic markets and sphere of influence (Asia Pacific region). But in the capitalist system, China's products obviously can't compete on the global market with European and North American products, especially those that require the most modern technological sophistication. This what I meant by real innovation. Sth a produced in a country of origin that generates demand globally bcus its sth entirely new never seen before. Highly industrialised nations in the West need these innovations for thier industries so the consumer base is very high. Unlike S. East Asia where more Chinese products may have more prevalence, the Chinese can get away with producing things of lower sophistication and quality cus these countries can't afford the most advanced technologies of high quality with very few exceptions. So im sorry if I touched a nerve. But we need to appreciate the reality of facts and with all due respect China/Chinese don't do this. You live in your own really of what is the truth. The unconvenient truth is that China does spend its time copying Western technologies and innovations and at best trying to improve on them in order to service its own domestic and regional market. What's more concerning is that the political apparatus in China is guilty of sponsoring this stealing and using it for nefarious reasons. There has been plenty of information out there on the subject for ten years now for God's sake, so this shouldn't be news to you. So I stand by what I said. Yes on some respects we 'need' each other in this new world. China is the cash cow for Western industries. But let's be real here. You need us alot more than we need you.
