  3.  @Jeanne90275  Trump was already doing Putin's work against Ukraine and weakening NATO FOR him, there was no reason to act. There is reason to act now, with Russia's population being hit hard by covid and economy doing poorly even pre-Biden Ukraine war sanctions. He acted now out of a position of weakness and desperation, since conditions were not going to get any better anytime soon. And Putin probably made the determination that there's a slim chance of Trump ever getting that second term now.
