  2. He was working with Troma at the time. Making those jokes would have been totally in line with Troma's brand. Peter Jackson made a schlocky gorey zombie movie before he did Lord of the Rings. And we are all thankful that he did. Same with James Gunn. He was an outsider with the balls to make shock jock jokes, and it takes that kind of mind to pull off a movie as different and unique as Guardians of the Galaxy was. The director for the Mad Max movies and the Babe movies is the same person too. Should directors be totally typecasted? I don't think so. In these cases, getting risky directors has helped these movie franchises get as successful as they are. Also, they were just jokes. From a fucking decade ago. Disney knew about James Gunn's background, but they didn't give a shit then. They only give a shit now because any kind of bad PR is a no-no, so best to fire all your talent instead.
