I remember the times of the Soviet union when Americans used to make an argument that "How can you support a country that spies on it's own citizens?" Cut to 2013 Edward Snowden leaks. America is running the largest surveillance network in human history that even spies on the Brazilian president Dilma Rouseff. But the younger generation have no idea about these things because they started paying attention to politics only after 2016 due to the election of Donald Trump, and they hate him so viscerally that he's beyond the pale and for them is basically a symptom and representative of everything that is so wrong with America and American politics.
