  1. Shia position and Sunni position on Alawites. Syrian Historian, Ibn Kathir categorise Alawite as non muslim mushrikeens (Polythiest) in their writings. Ibn Taymiyya, ibn kathirs mentor and arguably the most polemical anti alawite Sunni theologian, categorised alawite as a non muslims and listed them as the worst sects of polytheists. Through many of his fatwas Ibn tammiyya described alawites as "the worst enemies of muslims" who were far more dangerous than the Mongols and crusaders. He also accused them of aiding the crusaders and Mongol invasion in the Muslim world. Other Sunni scholars Al Ghazali consider Alawites them as non muslims. Shia scholars such as shaykh tusi did not consider Alawite as Shia Muslim while condemning them for their heretical beliefs.
