Macron ended up in the position because of spectacular failures of Francois Hollande and Sarkozy who were detached from any sort political reality and cared more about thier mistresses. I remember John Oliver doing segments fawning over Francois Hollande. After the failure of Hollande John Oliver never did a video about how Francois Hollande had an approval rating of 3 percent and had to step away from elections out of embarrassment. That's the difference between Elite people' opinion and Ordinary people' opinion.
