I miss Rowntrees and MacRobertson’s, they were both manufacturing delicious chocolate bars for decades, but like most companies, time outgrows the family connection and corporate buys them out.

Hershey’s, I think, doesn’t pass for milk chocolate in Europe because it doesn’t contain the right balance of ingredients, so it gets labeled as “milk chocolate flavour”.

@ MacRobertson’s were Australian. They made the original Cherry Ripe, Columbine Caramels, the original Chocolate Freddo Frog, the Snack chocolate block and Old Gold Chocolates. The company was taken over by Cadbury’s in 1967. 😭🇦🇺

@ Hershey’s chocolate was originally made it for the soldiers in wartime, so it had to last for months, and when the soldiers came home, they wanted the Hershey’s chocolate that they were used to, and it’s been made the same way ever since. The US Government protects the Hershey company as the major supplier of American chocolate. That’s why Hershey’s make some limited Cadbury’s under licence but nothing considered in opposition to anything Hershey makes.

@ It’s OK, I grew up in Australia and I clearly remember the MacRobertson’s logo on so many of my favourite treats. It’s always sad when a family business closes down after decades of production.

@verttikoo2052 Kit Kat is produced globally by Nestlé (which acquired Rowntree's in 1988), except in the United States, where it is made under licence by the H. B. Reese Candy Company, a division of the Hershey Company (an agreement Rowntree's first made with Hershey in 1970).
