All our switches are off when up. Sidewalk is such a strange word for Aussies! We call it the footpath or the path, but sidewalk is like an instruction for Americans to tell them where they need to walk, so they don’t get run over by cars! LOL! Similarly, horse-riding is called horseback riding in the US, just in case you don’t know where to sit on the horse. LOL!

In Australia and the rest of the world, tipping has a whole different meaning. Tip is also called a gratis, and gratis means freely given. So tips are freely given to those who have given outstanding service. Some restaurants have lots of wait staff and so they can choose to gather all the tips into one bowl and divide them equally at the end of the shift, but where there are only a few wait staff, the restaurant can opt to allow the staff to collect any tips for themselves. Also, in Australia, there’s a minimum wage for each job that must be paid by law. Employers can raise the payment but not go lower. Either way, it’s entirely up to the customer to decide whether to tip or not. And yes, there’s a moving hole in the ozone layer above Australia and Antartica. It varies in size and location.
