Castles are cold, draughty places, impossible to heat due to the enormous heights of the rooms. They had iron bed pans to heat the bed before you got into bed. There was one in the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean - the maid put one into Elizabeth Swan’s bed. They also had fires in the hearth of each room. They were fortresses built to keep out invaders. They had battlements so they could send thousands of arrows down into the invading hordes and be safe behind the stonework themselves. That’s also why many of them were built up very high and had moats around them. The more difficult to enter, the better!

“Medieval castles were built as homes for kings and nobility, the noble class of a country such as royalty and important public figures, to protect them from unwanted intruders.” The US doesn’t have a medieval history when invaders would attack and try to take their lands. The US is more geared to modern day war and is usually involved in those.
