  1. Concrete cylinder on the side of the road: this made me realise that I haven’t seen one of those in quite a while! They belonged to Telstra, the serviceman unlocked the cover and lifted it off, and inside is a core of wires connecting to all the landlines in the houses on the street so they could access connections and repair them. I never missed them until just now!

  2. My educated guess for the red oval number would be that it came from an old locomotive. I’ve watched lots of antiques shows from UK and these are fairly common items at auctions.
