I live in Sydney’s southern suburbs where our local Council covers a very large area, and one of their major policies is to maintain the trees. No one is allowed to remove a tree from their property without an application to the council with a sound reason for its removal. The Council can approve the removal of diseased trees at risk of falling onto properties or spreading disease to other trees, etc., but the Council will require the tree to be replaced. The trees give out oxygen, counteracting the fumes from the cars in the area, as well as keeping the air breathable.

All of Australia can get hot in summer, but they’re usually heatwaves rather than the norm. Sydney’s southern suburbs summer temps range from 22C to 42C, but 42C is one day or about 36 hours, then a southerly wind will blow in and cool everything down by at least 10 degrees. It’s the responsibility of the Councils to make sure there are plenty of trees in their districts. Sydney is made up of 658 suburbs, spread across 33 local government areas. Picking on one suburb like Marsden Park, gives a rather unbalanced view. Without the Greater West, Sydney would have been unable to house any more people who wanted to live here but had a limited budget. Most suburbs aren’t planned by one developer, the way Marsden Park seems to have been.

@lmaree200886 Sutherland Shire is very particular about preserving and maintaining trees.
