Ian, if you want to study some really interesting history, start with the ancient Vikings because they were fierce warriors who explored with ships and travelled further than anyone else in that era. They travelled as far as Canada, the UK and France, and claimed many lands, before they finally came across armed adversaries. Their influence around those regions is still there to this day. Modern Britain is full of their exploits along with the Romans, another conquering people.
