  1. The dual dial on US cars might be because you actually converted to metric some years ago but no one really uses it, whereas we converted to metric in the 1960s and had a grace period for both which ended after a few years of adjustment. We have no further use for mileage.

  2.  @sg7392  Yeah, I was counting from Decimal currency, that was the first step in going metric. We switched from Imperial currency and measurements to decimal currency and metric measurements over a long period.
