  2. Ian, you were close! Mooloolaba has the emphasis on loo so it’s muh-LOO-lah-baa. You can practise here: https://youtu.be/s56mrhlxsP4 Bondi is pronounced bond-eye. Tourists AND locals swim at Bondi. When you come Down Under, make sure you can swim if you intend to go to any beach. Swimming in the ocean is dangerous if you don’t understand the currents and what to look for such as rips. If you take the kids, choose a beach with a wide continental shelf so there are no sudden drops into deep ocean. Long Jetty just north of Sydney is one we used to holiday near when we were kids on family holidays.

Surfer’s Paradise used to be a surfing beach, but as it became more popular as a tourist destination, the accommodation hotels began to occupy all the properties, making it one of the most expensive tourist places in Australia. Now there are man-made canals to give water fronts to more accommodation. Like so many beautiful places on the planet, once commercialism buys in, the locals lose out and the dollar takes over.
