Supposedly to make the signups faster and easier for those users when they do want to use Facebook. They collect both email and phone numbers from the contact lists that are uploaded and are checked daily for verification purposes. They will also try and match personalities with both offline and online users to ""Enhance the experience and offer the best content for new users"".

  2.  @robbraxmantech  They also read the contents of the messages that their users say to each other on each platform and should a real name, together with an email or phone number is also mentioned, the name will then be matched together with those accounts to make signs easier and faster. So even if you delete your account they will still have the last remaining credentials thanks your Facebook friends uploaded contact list.
