Yep, Ukraine has 20 brigades there just to defend an unimportant city ... cope.

Why not say what is on the map - near Adiivka Russian forces have liberated a village to the north - krasnoporivka. There is nothing beyond that village but fields. Its on the map - so say it!

@vs-tm1ch ... lol news used to say its strategically important, than it was not important when Ukraine is about to loose it... would you defend a small city of "no importance" with 20 brigades ;))) We are talking about 80,000 or so people. Just to give you an idea of how strategic it is - it is defended by over 3x as many troops as area of Mariupol was.... It is defended by almost 2x as many troops as KIEV was defended at the beginning of the war.... so not strategic at all ;) just touch more important than your capital ;)

@vs-tm1ch Cope. No one defends so hard something that has no value. Some of the best troops are in the area as well - you cannot have 20 brigades of just national guard. Come on - there is UA deployment map ;) Can check it yourself. This battle shapes up to be the pivotal battle of the war - like say "Stalingrad" or "Kursk".

@jamescooke7243 No - you need more firepower - you need at least 3x or better 5x the *fire power*.

They may actually push Russians back a lot again. So what - Russians will re-take the land. Before Germany was done they also did Battle of the Bulge. So what. The only positive is quicker end to the war.

LOL. If Putin died today war would not change one bit - or it would be pushed harder by Russia. I.e. the only way out is full defeat of Kiev.

Nah, unless they really want to fight to the last Ukrainian. Why would Russia negotiate a year from now? With whom? Dead people?

Its a great idea - before the end all loosers go for an offensive - the bigger the better. This will quicken the end of the war. So its a good idea. Heck, they may even unblock Bakhmut! War fundamentals do not change - Ukraine will loose the war - better sooner than later.

@vs-tm1ch Ukraine lost the war a long time ago. The reason they lost is simple, they cannot replace material and people at the same rate that Russia can. Russia is also not deterred by current loss rate. Thus Russia will win the war, whatever the actual "win" will look like. In order for Ukraine to win, fundamentals would need to change - and things such as direct NATO entry into the war are unlikely. Even then, I suspect the ending would be a tie.

@vs-tm1ch The war has shown that you cannot do everything with just more hardware and sometimes need plain troops ===> see results after Russian mobilization. Russia is not using its full power, while Ukraine is - Russia can mobilize another 300k, than another 300k if it needs to. Ukraine cannot. Russia can switch to more total war its economy -- Ukraine cannot as it already is at it. I.e. Russia can throw in way more resources and have far more rapid gains - but there is no need for such action right now. Gains may be sluggish but they are still gains. Losses are low and that is what is currently important for Moscow.

@vs-tm1ch The mobilization has shown that Russia can cross a lot of lines - if things went very bad, even the nuclear option. Both sides are willing to sacrifice everything. Bakhmut shows the weakness of Ukraine and stupidity of its command. 20 brigades defend the city and the region around it. Russians are making gains every day. If it makes you feel better, it took 4 years to take Syrian city of Aleppo. Today for example, there is a video from freshly liberated steel works in Bakhmut. Also Russians made gains in the south of the city as well as moved few km to the north - west of the city. Eventually Ukraine will run out of meat and you will see similar collapse as Nazi Germany - i.e. it will start crashing down quickly. Also before collapse you will see some offensives - even ones that have some success.

@vs-tm1ch Again too much propaganda watching. They hold it b/c if they let it go there is nothing much for Russians to be stopped at before Krematorsk - Sloviansk. And Krematorsk - Sloviansk are last two cities in Donbass - taking these means Russian can legitimately say they won. Yes, Bakhmut is huge meat grinder for Ukraine - they are loosing LOTS of troops - especially now that they are tactically encircled. Russian artillery and fire from all sides while what is left of weak UA artillery is far away. The reason for "no experience" troops in many areas to be used as a gun meat - i.e. it does not matter if they blow up a marine or a school teacher with artillery. Or to quote a UA soldier from the motorized brigade that defends south of Bakhmut "Russians are coming here to shoot like if they were shooting bunnies." To get to Sloviansk you need Bakhmut. So Bakhmut is of importance as well - plus it serves as a nice meat grinder now for Russians. Again, you do not defend a small city of no importance with... 20 brigades.... if we see a major counter attack in that area - you do not expend precious resources and sacrafice your "spring/ summer counter offensive" for "area of no importance".
