He was even more enraged when Chinese called his response "soft" and not within spirit of "Stalin" ;)

@ZHLi-op4kc The video shows completely different view, China believed - or shall we say Mao, that Soviets betrayed the camp. Mao's hero was Stalin and he got.... purged! Mao was also similar to Trotsky - he wanted to spread the red flag, while Soviet got "soft". Mao also started to create his own version of communism. Best example is a split in the same religion, where initially both are same believers then an event happens and they split. From being very big friends they became bitter rivals. It is indeed ironic that China went to US when it felt Soviets should fight US! If the Chinese were first of all Chinese - why did they push - as per video - the ideology so much in Soviet face. If they did not want to get invaded, would a proper way be to invade ... first? I mean Soviets as per video conceded the new border - there was no need to push, just sign. Or was that some kind of show of strength on Chinese part? You can see a lot of effort by the Soviets to make it up with the Chinese, sending delegations, writing notes etc. Even what was not on video, giving Chinese some free military tech! It feels China was like an angry girl more than little brother - she got angry that Soviets did not fight the other man.

The islands were an excuse - the real culprit was Mao who was shocked when Soviets denounced Stalin, his personal hero. I.e. Soviets were no longer "red" they became "red-ish".

These counts were made by Germans. Look who won the war. Who do you think manned the western front for Soviets in 1945 - 50 year olds? Who would be willing to defeat these 40% remaining - you? Do you think US morale and public opinion would allow millions of Americans to die for Churchill and his plan? Why would Stalin somehow "quit" he would do what any dictator does - he would fight another war of attrition as he did not exactly have any other choice.

Its a bit of hypocrisy by Chinese to meet with Americans and at the same time accusing Soviets of being too capitalistic ;) Mao liked to be seen as Chinese Stalin and disliked "soft" Soviets.

Russia uses around 20,000 to 30,000 shells per day now and Ukraine around 6x less, so between 3 and 5 thousand per day. As a fun fact, during WWI all sides used... on average 1 million shells per day (!) Yeah, imagine you are post Stalin hard core communist and you are called a "softie".

Who cares about few nukes - that west did not have in July 1945 as well?

Churchil made a plan like lipstick on a pig. He was by 1945 no longer a leader of an empire & was marginalized by both US and Soviets. Given disproportion of the forces swift victory is a joke. Naval power is a joke - no one would put any aircraft carriers into the Baltic - it was already briefly though of in 1939. There was no absolute dominance in the skies. Attacking forces were heavily outnumbered. Morale would be non-existent among allies in the west. I am not sure what German forces could be salvaged but they are the only bright spot - I bet not much through, maybe few divisions at most. All this plan would have accomplished is fully red Germany. Incidentally Soviet attack first would also be risky and it may have ended with Soviets loosing not just Germany but Poland as well. Besides Stalin got so much out of the war he somehow wisely was satisfied by the enormous gains.
