Umm, but west made sure Russia is firmly with China and India. For the next 100 years.

LOL, Russia is now recognized as a world power - an important country with a lot of influence and prestige. You do know west is only 12% of the world, do you?
2
Pushing Russia and China together is a major geo political mistake of the west. Also Russia and India are now closer then ever. Good job west - you made sure Putin is stronger then ever.
2
@hgv1947 India.
2
More or less Russian influence in the world stage goes only up and up and up.

These are Russian islands as per international law.

@MrObvious-tg8lz no they are not. UN says that nations have the right to decide their future. Thus it is the right of the people of Crimea to secede from Ukraine. The right they have legally executed.
1
@MrObvious-tg8lz So what? Golan heights are Syrian according to 99% of the world. Taiwan is Chinese according to 99% of the world. Kosovo is Serbia according to 90%+ of the world. Need I go on?
1
@MrObvious-tg8lz Crimea belongs to the people of Crimea.
1
@MrObvious-tg8lz Umm, there were not even "illegitimate" elections/ referendums anywhere else I mentioned. Border changes after WWI and WWII by the victorious side were also not proceeded by any referendums. Most land transfers were political with a hint of basing them on ethnic makeup. This is why Sudeten land was taken from Germany and Silesia from Poland. So it may come as a shock to you but no one so far even bothered to hold any votes.

@MrObvious-tg8lz "Crimean referendum of 20 January 1991. The referendum asked Crimeans whether they wanted to restore autonomy to the region, and just over 93% of voters approved. " "in May 1992 the Crimean parliament established a Crimean constitution, and in September-October 1993 it established the post of President of Crimea. But in early 1994, after a polarising election campaign, Crimeans elected as their President a strongly pro-Russian candidate, Yuriy Meshkov. A power struggle between the Ukrainian parliament and the Crimean parliament commenced. Another Crimean referendum in March 1994 asked three questions: ‘1.3 million voted, 78.4% of whom supported greater autonomy from Ukraine, 82.8% supported allowing dual Russian-Ukrainian citizenship, and 77.9% favored giving Crimean presidential decrees the force of law’." So from the very start Crimea was not interested in being part of Ukraine. Even in early 1990s when Ukraine was not doing too bad - it was doing as well as Russia and better than Poland. In later years Ukraine started to disintegrate while both Poland and Russia flourished. Ukraine grip on Crimea is not justifiable by any EU laws - yet EU supports it - which shows what kind of institution EU is.

@tapultanul97 I do consider them as Russian version of Sudetenland - and if you do as well than you fully agree they should belong to Russia.
1
@tapultanul97 Taiwan is seen as Chinese as it is legally part of China. If US applied its policy evenly it would have helped PRC take Taiwan back... but somehow they help rebels in Taiwan yet they disagree with Russia helping rebels in Donbass... strange, no?
1
@MrObvious-tg8lz Not US is not. US does not support Crimea as part of Russia. Instead US supports Ukraine. There is no aid to Russia to fend of Ukraine occupation.
1
@MrObvious-tg8lz Whose laws are these? And why should Russia fall under them? The west does not care about them so why should anyone else? Laws are created by stronger - once east is seen as stronger a lot of things west does will be illegal and US will be forced to pay repatriations or face sanctions.
1
@MrObvious-tg8lz Russia helped people of Crimea throw Ukrainian occupier off their land. US is supplying Kiev regime to fight Russia and occupy land against the will of the people. You are very confused by propaganda person.
1
Umm, not sure - not anytime in the last few hundred years. Russia has not been this strong since fall of Soviet Union - maybe mid 1980s.
1
@Byzantine-Revolt Yes but US killed it. This was like a decade ago.
1
China invading Russia is as likely as US invading EU.
1
I think Poland invading Finland is more likely.
1
LOL, no. Resources of Russia are already mostly Chinese - they can buy them. For cheap. Taiwan is part of China - they want to get part of their country back.
