  1. FYI Allan Turing was a great mathematician that did many things... but cracking Enigma is not among them as it was broken by Polish mathematicians before outbreak of WWII.

  2. They did - the knowledge was first transferred to France and then over to UK where it was used to break German messages. Poles did create the first bombe machines but as complexity of the Enigma grew there was a need to expand the bombe network as well as make upgrades.
