Russia did overrun Ukraine - they are at around 150% of equipment losses as an example & Ukraine has no economy so to speak - not even food economy. They are 100% supported by the west, in both food and weapons. Ukraine is also suffering huge man power losses. Russia production capacity is through the roof. Russia went around sanctions. West badly under estimated Russia. And you want to... under estimate China? You know, China that introduced latest AESA radar few years before US? China that has more advanced systems on its 003 carrier - even through they only started building carriers? China that went from paper aircraft to actual flying ones in few decades? China that has few times more heavy industrial capacity than US - China that has more heavy industry capacity than entire west combined? Really?

@HerpDerpNV My account is older than your account so whom is the troll here. You got confused between Russia and Ukraine as far as whom is banning what ;))) Yes, I remember west saying 3 days - I do not recall Russia saying 3 days. Cope with the fact that despite sending 1000s of armored vehicles Ukraine is still loosing against Russia.

Iraqi air defenses were designed by the French and were set to defend the country against Iran. Thus they were not adequate to defend against US. I.e. they were adequate to defend against Iran. Iran is defined as 25 to at very most 30 aircraft at the same time. Defenses around Baghdad were maybe string on paper and strong on video but most were grossly obsolete - only few systems were modern - these incorporated into French system. Thus Baghdad was not the most heavily defended city at all - that would be Moscow and maybe Tel Aviv.

Ukraine did fall alone within 6 weeks - this is when their artillery ammo stopped coming form stores as it was gone. But whole NATO sent 1000s of armored vehicles and 10,000s of missiles. Ukraine also decided not to have any economy and is simply living on handouts - even food. So all of its men can be conscripted.

I would not be too quick to assume SK or Japan would get involved. Certainly I would count SK out.

@luigimrlgaming9484 They are way more powerful. Its not even close. Have you compared them??? Type 55 vs. Arleigh Burke - 13 being build right now. Chinese ship is 50% bigger... More missiles and way, way, way better radar. Chinese ships are so big that they are classified as cruisers by NATO.
3
@luigimrlgaming9484 Have you seen protests in US???? Soviet Union fell b/c it could not sustain arms race economically. China does not have that problem - US does. I.e. US cannot sustain arms race vs. China. So will US fold like Soviet Union? Unlikely as it is rather homogenous.... or is it?
3
@ms3862 How is that possible given Chinese tech edge over US? I mean Chinese destroyers are around decade ahead of US destroyer fleet - how can given such tech edge China loose combat? Also what do you expect Chinese subs to do, just sit around and wait? What about air power from the main land - they would use hypersonic missiles to just cream US navy.
3
And than China casually makes 50,000 and does not even blink.

The main issue here is that modern air defenses can easily shot down incoming HARM missiles. They can engage not just the aircraft BUT the incoming missiles, drones, etc. Finally the future is filled with passive systems - i.e. no radiation - systems that can detect and engage drone, missile etc. from many miles away without use of any radar. And this is only for ground based systems - for air borne systems we have a whole host of loitering ammo aimed at taking out enemy drones. Here the one with biggest manufacturing capacity is king. And guess who it is.
2
@luigimrlgaming9484 Its not from China - its from the west. One can see what is going on by simply looking at the fact that China has been allowed by the west to become electronics power house. Not only that they put heavy $ on R&D and currently have more top universities in top 1000 than US does. Also if they manage to hold on current growth for a decade they will go sky high. They cannot hold it for more than a decade as in 30 years at current rate they would be flying to different stars in star trek style ships. At that point taking Taiwan on earth may be of little interest.
2
@luigimrlgaming9484 Still, its an example of riots in US that were on large scale and can repeat. China has its own version, but it is far more localized - say Uighurs running around stabbing people - but that is just one province.

@Dadecorban What about countries that are neutral, i.e. Arab countries predominantly? They can buy either. Why would they buy Russian if it was crap? If you are free to pick, what reasons could you choose, I usually buy based on price and performance. Also if Russian stuff was such crap why everyone is so afraid of this "crap"? For example, if S-400 was such a poor system why would US refuse to sell F-35 to Turkey citing worries about S-400? I mean its crap, so why worry? Finally, if previous Russian weapons were so crap why did they have such great success against "great" US weapons? We don't have to look far, for example in Vietnam US lost close to 10000 aircraft to these terrible weapons. These terrible MiG-21s seem to be doing fine against US aircraft and before in Korean war MiG-15 was doing quite well. Are US weapons crap too? They must be! I mean take a look at crap US Abrams tank - Iraq lost over 50 to ISIS and they only had some pickups - clearly Toyota >> Abrams, no?
2
@Dadecorban Umm, not true at all. Russian goods do come with less strings attached but certainly they DO come with strings attached. For example, Poland cannot get much for its fleet of MiG-29s. Both Egypt and Iraq recently changed to buying Russian. Mostly due to price - performance ratio. Heck, a lot of equipment in Afghanistan sponsored by US was... Russian...

Wargaming on paper is not very useful. Even real units movement is not that great.

China has rather modest force on the border with India - India is checked by Pakistan as well - I would not worry too much if I were China. The main problem for US is superior Chinese technology, much newer navy as well as super fast growth of capability. Look at Chinese carrier fleet - just recently they had to repaint some old Soviet junk - now they are fitting in 003 that has more modern radar than newest US carrier and newer catapult system (both are electromagnetic). Imagine type 004. Also Chinese are able to build carriers at multiple locations vs US at 1. Finally China is one giant factory - they can make tons of stuff quickly - so atrition war is out. China needs to wait till 2030 - at that point US will have no chance.
1
@badofi Good summary!
1
And here China excels.
1
All China needs to do if it really wants to win is wait. Or if they need to win now they can, if not securing outright victory do atrition combat - they can easily out produce US in say aircraft & ships. By 2030 without nuclear use I do not foresee any ability for US to hold on to Taiwan even if US throws 100% of its power - it will simply be out gunned & by 2030 US would have problems holding on to Hawaii.
1
This existed for a long time now, both in US and everywhere else. Heck some missiles even have a mode they can switch to that is hunting for enemy radar. This does not kill stealth at all as any stealth plane knows everyone can see its radar - this is why it would turn it on for only a brief moment or when actively engaging.
1
@tocu9808 For overwhelm attack you need anything that flies onto target - can be even subsonic. After all firing anything will require taking it out & they eventually run out of ammo for one of the sides. So yes, lots and lots of planes with Harms will do the trick. Problem is historically we did not see it. Maybe we see it more in the future (lots of Harm missiles). Also US is moving in same direction as Russia with use of much faster Harm missiles, which are hard to take out. "regular" ones are slow. Designed back when there was little that could take them out.
1
@vueport99 Korea is out - if they involved in the war they would soon be united with the North under Kim's rule.
1
But same can be said of US - none of US weapons have been really tested in a war. In a Cold War scenario or atrition war the one with larger industry will dominate - so Chinese win here by a wide margin. Notice how Soviets struggled against US with 2/3rd economy, Chinese now are in heavy industry around triple US capacity. This would not even be close.
1
@andyyang5234 Well, by that account Chinese weapons were also tested. I mean tested like for real - in at peer war. Russian weapons are being tested right now, for example. Of course immediate war - with what is had. I doubt US has any tech age - especially in few years I would assume Chinese tech edge. As time passes tech edge will increase. BUT, in a longer war all tech equates eventually - see WWII - everyone was more or less on same level - so in this case production ability will rule - again, see WWII. China will do to US what US did to Japan / Germany. Essentially wars (unless you talk colonial wars) come down to demographics and ability to produce stuff. China has much bigger demographics than US and much bigger production capacity. So there is no way US can win any longer war unless it uses nukes.
1
@luigimrlgaming9484 Do you even know what protests mean in US? Usually involves sending army in to stop the "protesters" from tearing state to pieces.
1
@luigimrlgaming9484 Like recently - you mean not within last few months???
1
@luigimrlgaming9484 Nah, old news - they relaxed all covid rules in China quickly. Remember covid riots in the west? Did they contain them?
1
@luigimrlgaming9484 China is rather big place - so you would need to point out to which riots you are referring to. On a normal day they have quite a few protests going around. Just to give you an idea, in Uighur province something like 100 policemen die per year (!!!) But that does not mean they are falling apart - or people would see BLM / Antifa and say US is on fire ... well it sort of is once police kill a black man. Regarding 100 policemen one has to point out the gun issues in say Chicago or New York with 100s killed per year. Both countries have their issues - that does not mean they are falling apart. Even Mexico seems to be staying more or less in one piece despite clearly having little civil wars inside.
1
@bad_covfefe Well, go away paid US troll - all comparison show advancement. You can compare yourself if you like. What combat experience??? From WWII? Or do you mean standard operations in Iraqi war??? At current rate China will exceed US Navy in total tonnage by 2040 at the latest. Chinese average ship age is almost 2x less than US average ship age.
1
@Snow-vi9ix I view it exactly opposite - i.e. starting with more modern AESA radars on Chinese ships than anything else in the world - all they way to the missile systems. I.e. US destroyers are useless. 52d are... old ... than what do you call US destroyers - ancient? Museums on water?
1
Chinese would immediately take out US GPS system and US would take out Chinese system. Race to replace it would easily be won by China.
1
He probably was run by KGB - mostly b/c CIA never actually released any info he provided. This is strange, as Polish spy that got things such as AIM-120 diagrams is know for what exactly he provided. Here we have total mystery, he provided "stuff" but no one knows what this "stuff" is exactly. Neither US nor Soviets ever released what was it. Clearly today we know details of say MiG-29 radar so one can compare the real thing to intelligence provided. We can do this for many other systems - yet no one is disclosing this to prove guys value. Again, if CIA is so proud of him, why not validate it?
1
@Dadecorban someone is a bit envious of all these Russian military sales. If not for US sanctions on anyone buying them there would be even more sales. If Russian weapons were so terrible why sanction anyone buying them? No one would buy them. But you need sanctions to persuade countries from buying them. Turkey got them even with US applying sanctions after. And is getting more.
1
@Matt.Willoughby there was no recent as in few years, intent by India to buy Su 35. They already have like over 200 MKI models and the are the biggest user in the world. India in last few years was interested in light fighter so Su 35 would not do. Also Su 35 is too close to MKI. Indias interest is back with Su 57. I am not sure Russian stuff is crap compared to western. Time and time again such opinion was proven false. It is proven false in Ukriane.
1
And pp wonder why Soviets downed civilian 747 at night.
1
@dmitch1332 Maybe a lot but they can still sink. China mainland is rather immune to sinking. All Chinese really need to do is occasionally try to sink carriers and otherwise go for atrition war. With few times bigger production capacity US will eventually run out of carrier aircraft or carriers.
