  2. Nah, Ukraine did not stage so far a single large counterattack. Not even one. They are mostly doing point defense and counter. Defense mostly. Russians are racing with time to take as much territory in as little time as possible and hence heavy losses. Once they slow down losses will slow down and they continue to slowly gain territory. One has to remember to take cities is a long process - weeks. It is also man power intensive. I wonder whatever Russians will deploy more troops then planned to take all of Ukraine. Ukrainian resistance has been light - Russians, once again, are simply going too fast!

  8.  @MarkM001  B/c commercial drones do that - its common. This thing is for airport security so when some idiot flies his drone into controlled airspace it can be taken out. Landing is super common way to deal with LOS. Military drones are resistant against LOS or don't even need any signal.

  11.  @M41D_Walker_Bulldog  What is incorrect? The fact that it got lucky vs. junk in Iraq is true. But so its the fact it has power to weight ratio of a late WWII tank. I am deep into tanks. This thing is by far one of the worst modern NATO tanks. Other then tea pot in it, let me know what "modern" thing that tank has that no other NATO tank has done better. Heck, even many non-NATO tanks are better. Way better in every aspect. It is well know - same as Arjun is rather famous. Oh wait, they do share some tech ;)

  19.  @devonlord99  T-72BM3 lower set is roughly Leopard 2 A5 and higher set is Leopard 2 A6. Maybe not the latest but quite good. Latest T-90 is roughly on par with Leopard 2 A7. Russians produced T-14 mostly b/c T-72 / T-80 platform is obsolete - there is no room to move up from there. Also Russia does not have even close to tens of thousands of T-72BM3 - They do not even have 1000 T-90 of all types (old and new) Their total inventory of about 20k is 85% old obsolete tanks as war reserve. The T-72BM3 and up is less then around 3000. More then enough to easily win any confrontation in Europe.

  20. Umm, Russians paid very good attention to all lessons in tank warfare. This shows in Ukraine. Thanks to heavy reliance on tanks and APCs as well as artillery and tactical air power Russians demonstrated their tiny force can prevail or at least stop much larger enemy force - which itself has lots of tanks. I.e. tanks are force multiplier. If you can have one tank vs. 3 infantrymen armed with say NLAWs Ukraine clearly shows that Tank rules. You would need significant #'s advantage to hold the tanks and even more to attack tank heavy forces.

  21. This is why they will not capture it. Russia needs to keep UA morale low. Also Russia needs the city which is behind a river as a bridge to Odessa which will be targeted later this year.

  22. There is no longer 35k vs. 25k - (or 30 vs 20) - Ukraine is loosing well over 1000 troops a day in the region and 100s of vehicles. There are dozens of videos of destroyed UA hardware. Whole brigades are reduced to company size.

  26.  @braveheart4603  Compare craters to aircraft. They are roughly as big in the images. So they are easily over 10m wide. Closer to 15m. In soil only thing that could do such crater is direct impact by large missile - like Scud. So it could be a strike by say 4 Scud-D missiles - they carry around 1 ton of explosives' and have accuracy of 50m. But where would Ukraine get these? Technically Ukraine claimed these were destroyed. But what if they lied???? There were some other systems from cold war that could do it but all were destroyed as per signed documents... or were they? Note the blast is from a missile 4x the size of ATACMS. Also Note that technically US had some scud missiles......for training.

  29.  @tonysu8860  But how can infantry clear these enemy nests if they do not have tank support? This is why tanks are with infantry and are used as fire support. Some get lost but your infantry wins.

  30.  @andyo8141  Sure it is excellent strategy by Russia! Tank is a force multiplier. They do not need to send large army and take large casualties, they can take small casualties while enemy takes on massive casualties. If they run out of tanks then they can have light infantry on infantry action. Remember both sides started with same # of tanks.

  32.  @fluffymadsquirrel5946  By May 9th Donbass troops better be encircled or Putin will be angry. If Putin is angry Russia will at least partially mobilize and war will be pre-longed a bit more. But I think by 9th they should at least be on their way to close the pincers. Ukraine is clearly loosing this war and nothing much can save it. It can only pre-long the war - something US is busy at.

  34.  @xavierg8985  Russian terms were to only transfer to Russia territories with majority Russian population that do not wish to live under Kiev. Also these territories were transferred from Russia to Ukraine during Soviet times - thanks to certain Ukrainian descent Soviet leader. Shows you why transferring land between provinces is dangerous even in the same country.

  35. Problem is that Russia reduced Ukraine heavily. The troops in the river bridgehead are attack with air power and artillery a lot. Their pontoon bridge is out. They are trapped and killed every day.

Lots of large formations liquidated. On video. Finally map and videos from Russian held front line. Ukraine limiting losses? Since when?
