Challenger 2 is the worst tank of NATO. Hands down. Its terrible. It has mobility of a brick and main gun that is obsolete for at least 40 years now. Dozens of other defects. Its only challenger is Arjun from India.

@agt155 LOL! In WOT maybe, but not in real life ;) If it could go out the back it would slice right through front of latest M1 as well - thus there clearly would not be any need to move to 120mm ;)))))))))))))

@agt155 M1 is from the 80s. So not exactly that new... L27a1 is for rifled gun and hos low specs. It cannot penetrate even a bit older Russian tanks on their frontal arc unless hitting weak zone.... I.e. L27a1 is obsolete.

@agt155 Ah yes, lets take a look! L30 is a 55 cal gun - so long at 6.6m it fires projectile at 1650 m/s max Same as L44 but less than L55 (1750 m/s). At such high velocity (full charge) the L30 has very, very short life of just 400 shots while original L44 had 1500 (now more). Did not find info on actual pressure for L30 but it is the energy of the actual SHOT that counts - and darts fly at same speed as L44 - so they cannot be better than L44. The latest L/55A1 has impressive stats and I am sure the darts fly even faster from it. T-14 main gun has even more pressure than L/55A1 and darts fly (at 5kg mass) at over 2000m/s Since junk from UK is rifled you cannot exactly compare apples to apples with smoothbore guns everyone else uses - where you can just look at things such as pressure. Rifling is the problem.

@nikolaucznaum4312 Everyone moved away from rifled gun as it greatly reduces your options... Do your homework before posting! With rifled gun you cannot fire high velocity APFSDS rounds. You also cannot fire missiles. This is why in late 1960s tanks started moving towards smoothbore.

I assume very poorly. It is super non mobile, way too heavy and has terrible main gun. I assume it will be used on the road only as a far away assault gun.

@Fvoarin All tanks main role is infantry support - if this tank is more specialized than that than its not an MBT - its a heavy tank... throw back to the end of WWII. It does sort of have a mobility of a JS 3 or Tiger 2. My God, if that is true this thing is even worse than I assumed!

@gonzomuse The specs of the tank are terrible. It has no mobility, low fire power and its armor is not the best. Who cares what it did in Iraq? Did you know that ISIS pickup has 60 to 0 kill ratio vs. M1A1??? I guess not! Old Russian armor with competent crews are beyond reach of this tank. It will be creamed in any tank on tank engagement for simple reason that modern T-72 can penetrate it with ease from 2000m while its obsolete main gun would need to hit a weak spot on T-72 to penetrate.... There are rumors that these tanks are never to be used in any situation where they may get captured or there is not a recovery vehicle close by. Essentially there for emotional support. I wonder why ;) The only other tank that is so bad as this is Arjun from India. Bottom line is, UK should get rid of this junk and buy Leopard 2 A7 or upcoming panther tank. This junk is beyond saving.

@gonzomuse What performance??? Against whom??? Where did it perform so well huh??? I take upgraded T-72 over Chally 2 any day - it is far better tank! I can take out Challnger 2 with first hit from 2km away while I know it would need to get lucky to penetrate my superior armor package. My tank is also far more mobile - I can go off road and take out mobile bunker from the side - I can flank. Chally 2 cannot do that. They only super thing Chally has is tea. Also T-72 is more reliable & uses less fuel and is easier on logistics. Not to mention T-90M which is even better version of T-72 + T-80. Its a total failure of a tank. There is no future for this junk. UK should by well made German tanks and send all of this junk to scrap yard or Ukraine.

@TheInfamousMrFox I wonder why US did not rebrand M1? After ISIS pickups took them apart. Maybe British should have provided Iraqis with some Challengers so we could remove the myth of it being a "good" tank ;) The Challenger 2 tank is a disgrace to British industry. It is a terrible tank & terrible design that has been discussed many times. I have no idea why performance in Iraq matters at all - Iraqis have shown that they do not care what tank they have, they are equally incapable of using it.

@TheInfamousMrFox You are tank clueless. It has no mobility as it has mobility worse than T-34 (!) or many other tanks of WWII. Just look at power to weight ratio :) I.e. T-34 was more mobile tank. Who cares what record the gun holds - taking out some old garbage does not count - what counts is actual specs. They are terrible b/c its a rifled gun - no one else in 1st world uses... rifled guns ... far at least 30 years ;) HESH is obsolete type of ammo... it was good in 1960s but now its not good for anything. Maybe you should read how HESH ammo works and what it is good for. Its armor is not the best as it has weak spots even at the front where it has plain steel. What incoming fire? From whom exactly? Really basing this again on Iraq??? And even there they penetrated the front with some old missile. What Kornets? It never even seen a Kornet ;)))) What tandem RPGs???? It faced few and some penetrated. Even from the front! You are an idiot if you think that this tank, many times described as worst of NATO - is any good - there are whole videos dedicated to what garbage it is. T-72 can penetrate it from the front based on latest numbers for ammo and what is know of Challenger 2 frontal armor. What do you know of T-72 not being able to penetrate it from the front? Was it ever shot at with some modern ammo? No. So what do you know exactly? I do not even think it was shot at with some 1960s ammo! It obsolete gun cannot penetrate most frontal armor of T-72 latest variant - we know ammo specs, we know armor specs. No go. Or are British lying? Or maybe Americans? These are all facts. But there are no weak points in Russian lines anymore. What 100s more western modified T-72s? What 100 Leopards 2 and what 200 Leopards 1??? Where are you getting these numbers from. Besides even when true this is not enough to continue the war. Russia is winning the war. If Ukraine does not do some magic Russia will achieve all its military goals this year - than it can continue till Dniepr river if it wishes or freeze the conflict.
