  1. There is not much more that can be done with T-72 style tank - there simply is no place for it all. Even larger turret is quite limited. Hence Russia has created new platform and was looking for a new replacement sooner. Remember that T-72 style tanks are much older design the Abrams so they cannot be pushed as far.
