Minsk is dead. Looks like Ukraine blew their chance to end this as in Finnish / Canadian model. This is also fully the fault of EU that they did not push Ukraine to accept the deal but made it totally "optional". EU needs stronger leadership and ends it dependence on US - especially Germany. US is happy Russia will be weaker - this is not good for Germany to have half of Ukraine and sanctions on Russia.

@dain6250 He had no choice but to annex Crimea. US pressure on Ukraine more or less is forcing Russia's hand. EU is too weak to stop US and so things roll as they roll.

@dain6250 Referendums could be done with EU rules and he would have had easy win as well. UN charter says that people have the right to govern themselves. Somehow that right is always enforced by the west but denied when someone else wants to use it. Why, in Kosovo, no one even made a referendum! Why is sovereign territory of Serbia "liberated" by the west? Why did they stop Serbia from governing itself - heck, they no longer have Slobo so what is the problem? Why does US occupy sovereign Syrian territory? Why? No sanctions by the west. When your enemies bend or break the rules it would be foolish not to do the same - you would be left in the dust and weak. Crimea was a perfect example of how new Ukrainian regime went brain dead. Russia could not afford their base to fall into US hands - no more so then US will ever let Cuba have Guantanamo bay back.
